CHAPTER THIRTEEN
"If you need me for anything, we'll just be over there," I told Dani and pointed to the second observation room.
"Okay," she smiled and nodded, before Dr Harper and I made our way over to the room I was pointing to.
I didn't want to get in the way of Dr Reid and the nurses while they prepared Dani for her Radiotherapy, but I still like to be close in case she needs anything. Part of me would rather her have chemo because I could sit with her, but I can't sit with her during her radiotherapy treatment. I don't know if that's because I'm not allowed because of the radiation, or because they just suggest that I don't.
"I'm sure she'll not need you," Dr Harper smiled down at me and opened the door for me.
"I know," I nodded and walked into the room, followed by Dr Harper who closed the door. I know he told me to call him Harrison, but I'm just so used to calling him Dr Harper, so it'll take me a while to adjust.
"Sorry I didn't call down yesterday, I was just up to my eyes in consultations and paperwork," he explained and sat down beside me.
"Don't worry about, I don't expect you to be here every day," I laughed and glanced over at him.
"I know, but I still like to call down and check up on you guys," he sat back in his seat. "Even though I'm not Dani's doctor I still like to make sure everything is going okay," he explained and he crossed his left leg over his right.
"You'll be one of the first to know if it wasn't," I think he would be the person I phoned if something was wrong with Dani.
"How are things going at home? I hope you aren't too stressed being at home all day," he looked over at me and smirked.
"It's definitely not stressful," I laughed and shook my head, taking a quick glance through the glass at Dani. "Everything is fine, it's really starting to feel like it did before all of this happened," I looked back at Dr Harper and smiled. "It'll be better once we're back at work and school, even better when Dani finishes her radiotherapy."
"It'll be back to normal before you know it," he said to me and smiled slightly.
"Well mostly normal," I gave him a knowing look, since he was never part of 'normal' for us before this. He laughed and nodded, but shrugged his shoulders as if to tell me there's nothing he could so about that.
"So there's nothing worrying your or bothering you?" He raised his eyebrows slightly, not fully believing that everything was going as well as I had told him.
"Seriously, everything's fine," I told him again with a smile, trying to convince him nothing was worrying me. "The only thing I'm keeping an eye on is Dani and the side-effects of all of this," I looked through the glass at Dani.
"Are they bad?"
I shook my head and watched as they finished getting Dani ready, "not really, they could be worse. She still get back pain sometimes and she gets tired quite quickly, especially on the days when she has the radiotherapy. It's not as bad when she's had a few days rest," I know that the side-effects could be so much worse.
