CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

"Before you go to your physio session, I thought we could sit down and have a bit of a catch up," Dr Reid sat down behind his desk. "I feel like we haven't had a proper chat in a while, you're usually in and out again within two hours." He smiled and set his files down on the desk, before sitting back in his chair and leaning on the armrest.

"It feels longer than two hours," Dani told him with a laugh, while folding her arms across her chest.

"I'm sure it does, but it won't be for too much longer," he laughed slightly and nodded. "So how have things been lately?"

"Pretty good, the only side effects I have are feeling tired some days and slight back pain, so it could be a lot worse." She hasn't really had any major problems since we've got home, her back pain isn't as bad as it was the first time she had radiotherapy, but the tiredness is the biggest problem this time.

"How bad is the pain? I can change your painkillers to some stronger ones," he offered different painkillers.

"It's not too bad, the painkillers you gave me when I left really help with it," she said and shook her head slightly.

"That's good, just let me know if the pain gets any worse and we can sort out some different medication. What about school; are you handling that okay with the side effects?"

"Yeah its fine, I think if I had the radiotherapy in the morning it'd be a lot harder, but it's going okay." She hopefully doesn't notice it, but at school I would keep an eye on her and check up with her teacher's to make sure she's going okay.

"And is everything else going okay? I've been talking to Dr Austin and he thinks Friday will be your last physio session," he told us with a smile.

"Everything is fine, it's getting back to normal, I just hope it stays like that," she does worry that it'll all happen again.

"I wouldn't worry, this is the home straight now Dani," Dr Reid reassured her and leant forwards in his chair. "But we'll take Friday off your radiotherapy and we'll get an MRI done, just to check that everything is going to plan."

"And that should show if the remaining bits of the tumour are disappearing?" I really hope that everything is going to plan, because going through all of this twice is too many times already.

"Yeah, but hopefully most if not all the remaining bits are gone, but we'll wait and see what the scan says." He ran his hand through his hair, before he folded his arms in front of him and leant against the desk. "Well it seems like everything is going as well as they could do, so I'm happy to let you get to your physio session. Unless there's anything else you want to talk about or discuss," he asked and glanced between Dani and me.

"There is one thing I wanted to ask," Dani glanced over at me and I nodded at her, telling her that she should ask herself. "Is there any reason why I couldn't go away for a night?"

"It depends on where you're going and what you're doing," he smiled at her.

"It's a school trip to the Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park on the nineteenth," she did desperately want to go on the trip.
