CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

"Has Dr Reid talked to you about what's going to happen next?" Dani asked when I came back into the room and sat down, after I went to get a coffee.

"I saw him out in the corridor, he'll be here in a minute, he was just getting some forms." I was coming back to the room, when Dr Reid shouted over to me that he'll be a minute or two and he was with Dr Harper. I ignored the fact that Dr Harper was there, because I was still angry at him for missing the second tumour. Which was the reason why I'm back to calling him Dr Harper and not Harrison.

"Do you think he got the surgery booked for today?"

He said yesterday that he would try and get the operating room booked for today, so we didn't have to wait around for a few days. "I hope so," I just want all of this finished with as soon as possible, for Dani's sake.

"I just want to go back to school," she sighed and tilted her head back against the top of the bed.

"I know and you'll be back soon," I smiled and rubbed her hand reassuringly. "I phoned the vice-principle today and explained everything, so they'll try and help where they can. Once you've recovered from the surgery, we'll talk to Dr Reid about going back," I know how frustrated she must be. She had only just started back on Monday and, by Tuesday, she was back in here again.

A gentle knock on the door, made us both look over at the door and watch as Dr Reid walked in. "Hey guys," he smiled and walked over to Dani's bed, sitting down on the chair beside her. "How're you feeling this morning then?"

"Alright, the painkillers help a lot," she answered him with a smile.

"Good I'm glad to here," he nodded and looked down at the open file on his lap. "I've managed to get the OR booked today, so you're scheduled for three o'clock this afternoon." He told us and took a page out of the file, before holding it out to me.

"I've missed these," I laughed and took the consent form from him, waiting for him to hand me a pen.

"Hopefully the next one will be a release form," he looked up at me and smiled. "A couple nurses will be down around fifteen minutes before the surgery to get you ready, then they'll bring you down."

"Is Dr Harper going to be helping with the surgery?" Dani asked, as I signed the consent form and handed it back across the bed to Dr Reid. I was in two minds about why Dani asked that; she either wanted him to do the surgery, or she didn't trust him to do it after he missed the tumour.

"He can't do any of your surgery or treatment, he's be seeing you guys outside of the hospital on a personal basis. So he can't treat you," he explained and closed the file over. "But don't worry, I'm just as good as he is," he smiled at Dani reassuringly.

"Yeah I know," she laughed slightly and nodded, as Dr Reid stood up.

"I'll let you guys get some peace and quiet before the surgery," he said and looked between us. "I'll see you guys down there later," he gave us a brief nod and walked over to the door.

"Thanks," I smiled at him gratefully, before he opened the door and left the room. "Are you okay with having surgery today?" I know she's been through it before, but it's all been happening so fast this time and I just want to make sure she's okay with it.
