CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

"Would you like a drink while you wait?" The waiter asked as I sat down, after taking my jacket off and putting it over the back of the chair.

"Just a glass of water please," I smiled and set my purse on the table, before moving my chair closer to the table. The waiter smiled and nodded, then turned and walked towards the bar. Maddie and I had made plans to have dinner tonight, but she was running late out of work and wouldn't be here for another five or ten minutes.

While I was sitting there, I decided to text Harrison so see when we was free for dinner, because he still hasn't had a night off. The last time I saw him was Thursday and he wasn't off work when I asked him then, but now it as Wednesday, so I'm hoping that he was free this week. I never imagined that it would be this difficult to arrange dinner, especially since we've never had a problem making plans before.

'Hey Harrison, how's work? Do you know when you're free for dinner yet?'

Even though I've been in the hospital every weekday with Dani while she gets her radiotherapy, I haven't seen Harrison at all. He would text when Dani was in her session, to tell me that he was caught up with work and the he couldn't make it down. Then he would say that he would come down tomorrow when we were in again, but he would text the same thing the next day. Which is fine, because I never expected him to come down at all, but it makes trying to make plans difficult and if I text him about it, he doesn't know when he'll be off.

"Here's your water," the waiter stopped beside the table and set the bottle on the table.

"Thanks," I smiled and my phone vibrated on the table, as he set down two glasses.

"Can I get you anything else while you wait?"

"No thanks, she should be here soon," I said and he nodded, before walking away again. I picked up my phone up from the table and unlocked it, to open up Harrison's reply.

'Hey, it's pretty busy since I've got two overnight patients in right now I only just got back to my office. I'm working overtime the rest of the week, I'm covering for Greg while he's at a conference so I can't make it this week. I have Monday off, or does that not suit with work and Dani's RT?'

"Hey, sorry I'm late, work was a nightmare today," Maddie walked from behind me and to the other side of the table.

"Don't worry about it, I've only been here for five minutes," I looked over at her and smiled, as she sat down. "Rough day at work?"

"Don't even ask, I need the weekend sooner rather than later," she sighed and took off her coat. "How was work for you?" She draped her coat over the back of the chair, before turn back to face me with a smile.

"Yeah it was alright, not as bad as what your day sounds like," I laughed and looked back down at my phone, to text Harrison back.

'No Monday is perfect, I'm off work too and Dani's RT is rescheduled for Monday morning.'

I was actually glad to have Monday off because, even though I've only been back at work for a week and a half and with Dani's radiotherapy sessions straight after, it'll be nice to just relax for a day. I've spent the weekend and most nights catching up on work that I missed or that I needed to get done.
