The next couple of days seemed to drag on. Work didn't help much to distract you from the thoughts running through your mind. Steve had called you the next morning after confronting Bucky, but he had no good news for you. I guess he wasn't coming back this time. The constant ache in your heart felt like a black hole just swallowing up your entire existence.

"Y/N? Did you hear what I just said?" Tony's stern demanding voice pulled you out of your head for a moment. You lock eyes with him as he stares you down from across the table. "I swear, you need to keep your head in the game, or I'm pulling you off the field missions."

Shaking your head slightly, you feel a hand touch the back of your left arm. You knew instantly it was Natasha. She had been worried about you and in fact she had been going easy on you in training. Everyone seemed to be walking on eggshells around u, and it was starting to get annoying.

Slamming your fist down on the wooden table in front of you, jumping up from your chair, you slide the folder in front of you across to Tony and walk off.

"What is going on?" He throws his arms up and slams them back in his lap.

"She has a lot of personal stuff she is dealing with Tony. Just give her some space." Steve grabs the folder from in front of Tony and follows out the door.

"Y/N! Wait!" He calls after you, catching up to you in a flash. Damn super soldier strides.

"I don't want to talk to you. I don't want to talk to anyone. In fact, I'm leaving for a few days, and I need the space to think." Reaching the elevator, you press the up button, then cross your arms across your chest. "I'll be better off if I have some time to myself."

The doors open as Steve tries to take a step in after you. Holding your hand up, you place it on his chest, pushing slightly, knowing you didn't have the strength to push him out. "Please, Steve, just let me go."

He takes a step back, watching you as the doors closed in front of u. Breathing out a deep breath, you lean against the side wall. You reach over and press the button for your floor, looking down at your feet.

As the elevator stopped and the doors opened, you rushed out and down the hall to your room. Opening the door, you stare at the room in front of you, letting the pain in your chest hit once more. Clutching your shirt, you stand there frozen. I'm not sure what your next move was, but it sure was going to be a better thing than sitting here dwelling on the past.

*DING*

Your phone chimes as a message comes through. You pull it out of your pocket, looking at the screen. You still had the last picture you took with Bucky as your background and had no reason to change it. There were good times along with the bad, but he was always back one way or another.

The message was from Natasha. All she sent was:

*If you plan on going after him, just please be safe. Keep me updated at least so I know you are ok.*

It was like she pulled the idea from your head. Was this really the way to handle this? He didn't respond to Steve very well and you highly doubt he wants to see you. Oh well, he will have to deal. You are not letting  him get away with how he ended this. Not this time!

Thirty minutes later you we behind the wheel of your car, pulling out of the compound garage, speeding down the road. The cloud of dust behind you blurring the rear view. Only you and the open road ahead of you, and two hours to think of what you will say to him once you arrive.

Once you got into the city, you tried your best to avoid the people and crazy drivers. You hated driving into New York cause there was always something going on to cause a lot of congested traffic. Finally pulling down the street to where Bucky had kept his old apartment, you find a place to park down the street. Not wanting to give away that you were there, or have him prepare to slam the door in your face.

Turning the key to shut off the engine, you place the keys in your lap as your hands grip the steering wheel. Two hours and you still have no idea what to say to him. You did your best shooting from the hip anyways.

Grabbing your phone you shoot Natasha a text letting her know where you were. Opening the door, you step out placing the keys and phone in your pockets. Bumping the door closed with your hip, turning to check your reflection in the window, brushing a strand of your hair behind your left ear.

"Here goes nothing." Whispering to yourself, you start walking to the building.

You walk down the hall to the door of his apartment you stop short as your heart starts to race. What if he isn't here? What if he doesn't let me talk? What do I do when he slams the door in my face?

Closing your eyes, trying to hold back the tears forming. You hear your name being called.

"Y/N?" Bucky's voice was different though. Instead of anger or disappointment, he sounded surprised.

Opening your eyes you are met with his big baby blues staring right at you. Your breath caught in your chest as your knees began to shake. Swallowing hard you gripped your hands into fists as you tried to stay strong.

"What are u doing here?" He steps another few feet closer to you.

Releasing the tension in your hands, you close the distance between the two of you and reach out grabbing his right hand.

"We need to talk!" ............
