After that woman called me I was left in shock. What did she mean by my Aunt's disappearance? I tried to ask her more about what happened but she said she didn't have enough time to talk about that on the phone. Presumably, she is an active member of the authorities so she must have a lot of tasks at hand. After the call ended I was speechless. I felt my legs shake as I became more and more nervous the more I think about it. What could have happened? Did she die? And if she did. Who could have killed her? Was she doing her work and some criminal killed her? But that doesn't make sense... She's from the anti-terrorism department. Her job doesn't include fighting with criminals. They focus more on investigating the situation and finding leads about the criminals or possible terrorists. Unless she didn't give me the full picture. I needed to know more.
And so like that, I waited until night fell. I got a message from the same lady. "Meet me at Royal Cafe in about half an hour." I read the message and quickly rushed to Royal Cafe. It was a bit far from where I live but I managed to get there in time. Entering the place, I tried to look for the Woman even tho I don't know how does she look like. I could be able to find her. The place isn't that big anyways. Most of the girls or women I saw were people coming here with either their families or boyfriends. Until my eyes spot a red-haired beautiful woman who was wearing a somewhat formal outfit. I walked up to her as she was sitting and scrolling through her phone. "Um, Excuse me are you Miss Kassandra?" I ask as the woman stops scrolling and looks at me. Then she gave me a smile and nodded. "Yes, I'm Kassandra. I suppose you are Arlo, right on time. You are just like your Aunt." She said. Hearing this I got more nervous after hearing her talk about my Aunt. I bite my lower lip with nervousness and sit on the opposite chair to her.
"What happened to my Aunt," I say as I look at her. She nods understanding that I need to know more and I can't be calm at this. "Yesterday, at around 11 pm, we got a report of the disappearance of your Aunt. I knew first about it because I'm working under her." She says taking a sip from a cup of coffee. "You work under my Aunt?" I ask. "Yes, yesterday she disappeared while on duty. At least that's what the higher-ups told us. However, I came here to notify you about this since you are her relative." She says. I stay silent for a moment. "What kind of duty was she on before disappearing?" I ask. "The higher-ups refused to say anything about what she was doing before her disappearance. That's why I came to you personally and not just notified you on the phone." She says as I raise an eyebrow. "Why?" I ask her clearly confused.
"After hearing that she was on duty before her disappearance I decided to go into her appartment. The place was overly protected because she is a high ranking member of the authorities. However thanks to my unique ability I managed to break into the plac-" She says before I cut her off. "You broke into my aunt's place?" I raise an eyebrow. "Yes, I had to because I wanted to know more about what happened before her disappearance. They refused to give us any info. And that stroke my curiousity." She replies. "Aren't you all supposed to like... follow orders and not question them?" I ask, clearly this woman isn't a normal member of the authoroties. "Well mr. Arlo, we are not mindless animals. I came to you in order to see if you are interested in joining me." She says. "This woman is clearly out of her mind." I think to myself.
"You are asking me... to help you search for more clues about my Aunt's disappearance? Are you sure you are from the authoroities? Last time I checked it's porhibited for students to interfere in the matters of the authoroities." I ask. "Well, that means you are not interested in finding out about what happened to your aunt." She says. "Of course I'm interested but what makes you so sure that it was something suspicious?" I ask.
"Well, when I broke into your Aunt's place. I found of quite interesting things. She had a set of a strange outfit that looked very suspicious. Not to mention I found a map that had a lot of locations marked on it. The places were quite nearby too. So I have a feeling there is something suspicious going on that the Authororities are hiding from low ranking members like me." She says as she takes another sip from the cup. "And why are you so determined to find more?" I ask her clearly confused. "You know that organization called Ember right?" She asks looking at me in the eye. "Yes, I don't live under a rock." I respond. "I suspect that Ember might be a part of the authoroties. Because the locations that were marked that I found in your Aunt's place some of them had things to do with Ember's activity in the last year." She says. "But... let's say what you are saying is true... why would you go out of your way for this?" I ask. "Well, let's say a person I knew was murdered by this organization. And I want to find out more about them. Because if it really turns out to be connected to the authoroities. Then... I don't know what to believe anymore." She responds as I nod... It really is scary. All my life I was taught that the authoroities were the heros. They kept everything in check. But as I grow up, All I see is corruption. Most high tiers don't give a shit about it because they do not face any problems. The socity is worshipping the strong. And the weak is left to rot...
"So Arlo, What do you say? Are you willing to lend me a hand? This has to do with your Aunt as well. I heard you are very capable yourself. Your Aunt always kept bragging about how strong you are for your age." She says while looking at me with her golden eyes. "I will... Think about it first. Give me some time." I respond. Her face turns into one of understanding she understands the situation I'm in right now as my Aunt was my entire life. Losing her and worse finding out she might be a part of a criminal organization that killed a lot of people.
"I understand. You have until next week. After that, I will go out myself. You are not obliged to do this Arlo. I just decided to tell because I thought you deserve to know." She says as she gets up and walk away.
