38. Quitting is good sometimes

Next day was the day of full moon as we all prepared for the community run. Dad had stepped down from the throne officially and Marce was give all the seals and rights. The warriors chose their Gamma to be Star who kept on screaming near me. "Damn am I really the Gamma?" She's cute. The people from all clans had already joined us and congratulated me by bowing down to show their respect. They didn't even look into my eyes out of respect. It was overwhelming....truly. I never thought I'll be able to gain so much respect all of a sudden.

I was cleaning my room when I heard a soft knock at the door. I opened it to see Laila smiling at me. I quickly engulfed her into a big hug and let her into my room. She twirled me around and made me sit with her.
"Look at you." She chuckled as he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. Suddenly a feeling crept up my heart and I stood up. "I am sorry for ruining your everything." I looked at her with guilt in my eyes.
"What are you saying Fiona? You literally saved me." She smiled widely and hugged me again.
"I killed your brother, Laila." I whispered and she sighed. "He was already dead for me." I frowned upon which she made me sit down again.
"Lucas, he was a trouble kid but I never thought he would turn out to be so evil. You don't know what he did." She rubbed her arms as if it gave her chills to talk about it. I coaxed her to tell me everything and she sighed again.
"I came to say goodbye to you. I am moving back to the human world."
"What?" I frowned. "But we have the community run today and-"
I was cut by her chuckle and she took my hands in hers.
"Fiona, my wolf is dead and I can't run with the wolves in my human form. I have weak lungs honey." She laughed.
"I am sorry for killing it." I hung my head low but she pulled my face towards her.
"Hey, you did nothing. It didn't die cause you attacked me. It died, when my mate died."
"Your mate?"
"Zack." She sighed and walked up to the window. " That's the whole reason why he sided with Cannibals. With I being his mate he could have had both Cannibals and Prestige in his hands. Lucas had the same thoughts and that's why he brought me back to use me. Lucas.....he was evil from the day I have known him. We had an elder brother who he killed when we were kids, for the throne." She turned to me and rubbed her arms again. "Lucas was an abnormal child having diseases we didn't know of. He had extraordinary powers through, the smoke trails and a cunning mind. His wolf was so weak that it never came out of his body and that's why he didn't take part in any tournaments. He was a very cunning person and knew what could be done to gain power. For the majority of my life I had seen him slither into my parents room to poison them slowly but I couldn't do anything as I was his victim as well. He was some thirteen when he started doing science projects and would drag me into those. He would cut my arms and legs and inject chemicals to make me into some mutant. The rabid wolves you had witnessed that day were normal rogue wolves he catched and used as lab rats. He wanted power and territory to compensate for not having a wolf and having a weak body he started looking for people to help him out, dad being at his tow any minute. My dad had held your mother captive cause some priest said she had powers to heal Lucas but all that power he sensed was just you in her womb. But even knowing that Alpha female Stacy couldn't help his son he kept her captive cause if he released her there would have been a huge war among us. My brother grew up to be an evil kid and through various methods he gained powers. He had all sorts of powers that I don't even know till date and used dad to carry all his works as he was still young. My dad was not a bad person but manipulation and blind love for his child Lucas made him into one. Lucas got the hint about you and started finding your whereabouts but you were already sent into hiding so Lucas got mad. He did various experiments on your mother who was unconscious all the time, once turned her into a hyena but she was an Alpha by blood so she dominated him. Getting powers of a hyena she tried to flee but was then Lucas injected her with another chemical sending her into coma again."

So that hyena was really my mother.

"Lucas was the end to this world. He tried to get some DNA out of the wound that was caused by you to get something to increase his power again but when he didn't find any on my neck he threw me, his own sister into those experiment cells and starved her. He was working on transferring wolves from one individual to another and he lied to you that it would be me who will be receiving it cause he knew you had a soft spot for me. He was evil and you killed him to save all of us. I am proud and relieved that you came." She smiled and hugged me again and I could feel her pain. For me I had my parents but didn't know about them. I got a second chance in life with them. But Laila got none. She lost her entire family to a psychotic brother. I pulled her away and looked at her.
"What can I do for you now? Anything that you want me to do?"
"Just let me go. I want to live my life away from this chaos. My wolf was pleased to get away from me and I am equally happy. I'll just start my life all over again with John back in the states. Do come to meet us someday. I don't plan to return." She sighed and rubbed her hands. I hugged her once again and let her go. Sometimes letting go is the only way you can show that you care. She waved all of us as she said in a black car that would drop her at the outskirts of Wolf land.
