Gelma rushed in to her house in a frenzy. She had got a call from Jared and Jerry, a phone call she had been dreading. Her mother was suffering from multiple myeloma; cancer of the bone marrow. All may be wondering why a poor person would have that kind of an illness. It should end with the rich and wealthy as they could treat it and increase their lifespan even though the patient was sure of losing their lives. Having stem cell transplants was not for the low class people as herself and so providing a solution for her mom was close to impossible. She needed to do something for her mom reason why she had applied to several companies to work as a secretary. She needed cash so badly.
"Jared where is mom?" She demanded seeing her brother leaning by the door frame. He was the definition of devastation at that point.
"Mom needs to go to the hospital Gelma. It's bad". He was close to sobbing.
She took a deep breath which couldn't calm her still.
"Where is Jerry?"
" He's with her. I couldn't watch her in pain. It hurts Gelma. It hurts". Jared blinked his tears, they were threatening to fall but he didn't want to. Real men didn't cry.
"Call a cab. We are going to the hospital". She stated. She was beyond hurt but she had to remain strong for her brothers. She had become the sole provider and backbone of the family since their father left; as in died. After a couple of months, my mom was diagnosed with cancer. Could life get any worse.
She knew she had no money on her and she didn't want to borrow for the umpteenth time so she had no option but to visit oxygn for some cash.

Gelma looked up at the signboard at the top of the building, oxygn was a huge bar, mainly for strippers and the rest. She had been offered work here but due to her high virtues and what not she had turned it down multiple times. God she was a virgin and she wasn't comfortable exposing herself that way. They were primarily dressed in just lingeries and as if that wasn't enough, they had to go dancing naked on poles. You know what all strippers do right? She had no choice. If one were to be in her shoes, which one should not even dream of being cause her poverty was one with a certificate, they would do same. They were born already in the system of thriving and hustling. She sighed for the umpteenth time before moving in. It was still day so the place was quite empty. Well it was a night club actually. She greeted everyone there. They knew her of course, her friend was the chief stripper. Kiki was a stripping goddess. Not taking it wrongly but she was best at it. No one could steal her glory. This paid like shit so her friend was living large and she who was the good girl was swimming in poverty. Guess she had to join her friend today.
"Gelma!" Yeah only Kiki would scream that loud. Well who wouldn't be surprised?
"Hey babe". She smiled wryly.
"You shouldn't be here." Kiki approached her and took her in a tight hug.
"I'm in". She blurted out.
"What?" Kiki asked incredulously. "Don't know why I have a hard time believing that".
"Mom needs chemotherapy at least. I need money. I'm running out of time, if I don't act fast, there wouldn't be any need for a stem cell transplant ". Gelma explained.
"Ohh Gelma". Kiki hugged her even tighter."Are you sure you would be able to do this?"
"I'm more than ready Kiki". Gelma said.
"Fine let's meet the manager. Henry would be surprised though. You had turned  down his offer countless times". Kiki said dragging her to the fourth floor where the manager's office was.
"Don't worry with that great body of yours you're sure of getting a big fish. We have a number of rich dudes coming over tonight. Tonight's one of our special nights you are going to be lucky babe". She kept talking as they made their way to Henry's office.
"And...you gonna be getting paid twice. If you do a good lap dance you get paid you know... salary but the guys pay even more". She rambled on. "I had this sweet man... they are always married damn I really want to marry one of these wealthy men...
Gelma wasn't even listening again. This friend of hers didn't know how to shut up. Why did they take so long to reach the office.
Luckily they met Henry on one of the corridors.
"Hey  we were heading to your office ". Kiki smiled.
"Gelma?" He was surprised. "Finally". He smiled.
"She needs to be in the spotlight today Henry dear. She needs big money ". Kiki said. Gelma didn't have a choice did she?
"Want to grab some lunch can you guys join me?"
"So I have the job?" Gelma asked.
"You were always welcomed here honey. Tonight is your night". He said making her to feel relieved but nervous. She didn't know how to pole dance, she didn't know lap dancing. What if the client asked for something more? But doing extra activities gives more cash. She sighed shutting her thoughts. She wanted to feel free for now and not worry about tonight.
