Markus had just been over at Isla's house a couple hours ago, without her step dad knowing. Isla didn't tell either her parents yet, especially not her step dad. She knew he would freak out, he was definitely the unnecessarily Overprotective type.

While Isla's mom was gone at her job, and her step dad was doing god knows what, she'd secretly invited Markus. They watched movies and ate snacks in her bed.

A few hours after Markus came over, he realized he had forgotten his hoodie at his girlfriend's place. He was already in his car about five minutes away, so he just decided to go to her house without warning.

He thought it'd been fine without warning, and thought nothing of it. But boy, was he wrong.

Isla's stepdad had come home that evening, and Isla could tell he was high. Usually, her stepfather only drank and sometimes smoked weed. But she could tell that from the way his pupils were dilated that it was definitely more than weed, which worried her.

As he walked in the house, he quickly walked into his bathroom without acknowledging Isla. Once he walked out, Isla walked in after him and wasn't shocked to see bloody tissues in the trash can.

He was on cocaine, she was sure of it. She sighed in disappointment and shook her head. Part of her felt like an idiot for believing him when he said he quit.

She began to walk back to her bedroom to go watch tv, but then she heard a knock on the door.

She stopped in her tracks, and walked over to the door and opened it. She was shocked to see Markus at her door, and quickly walked outside and shut the door behind her to join him on her porch.

"Hey, sorry I left my hoodie. Is this a bad time?" Markus asked.

"Uhm, no. Your fine. I'll go get it, I'll be back." Isla lied through her teeth. It was the worst possible time for him to come over.

Markus nodded, and Isla walked inside to find his hoodie.

Once she found it under a pillow on her bed, she grabbed it and quickly walked back over to Markus and handed him it.

"Thanks." Markus smiled softly.

"You welcome. Listen.. I gotta go, I'll see you later." Isla slammed the door on him before she could even hear his response. She didn't want her step father to see Markus, she didn't know how he would react.

As Isla sighed in relief, she thought that her step father hadn't seen Markus at all. But as she walked back to her room, she was stopped by a hand on her shoulder that scared the living shit out of her.

Isla jumped in shock. "Jesus, you scared me."

"Who was that boy you were just talking to? The one with the white truck?" Her step dad asked, straight to point. As those words came out of his mouth, Isla nearly shit her pants. He had seen Markus's car outside his bedroom window.

"Oh, it was just a friend." Isla shrugged, trying to play it off.

"Don't lie to me, girl." He replied, and Isla noticed his voice getting sterner.

Isla gulped. "I don't know what your talking about, dad."

He could see right through her. "I don't want you sleeping around with some jock."

"I swear, it's not what you think." Isla shook her head.

"I don't care. Stay away from him, got that?" He said angrily through his teeth.

Isla felt tears start to well up. She knew there was no arguing with him, there was no point. She would have to break up with Markus, even if it was the last thing she wanted to do. She knew that if her step dad saw her with him again, he would beat the shit out of Markus.
