I wasn't particularly fond of social gatherings, much less weddings with no true friends or even acquaintances. It all seemed like too much effort for very little return. Pretending to be invested in people's love life and business that I couldn't care less about and not to mention having to wear heels and dresses I was not accustomed to was certainly not my cup of tea.

However, it was duty and a good taste for what was to come. Although I have said that I will most likely move back here with my family, I still didn't know how to feel. It was little suffocating. A little daunting. And very uncomfortable.

However, knowing Ryo, he needed more in his life. He found life boring as it is. Staying in Japan where everything was calm and peaceful was not suitable for him. He didn't mind getting his own hands dirty and found the act of taking lives as a practical and efficient move unlike my poor mother who always believed that lives should always be treasured. Yeah, neither of us had taken that gene.

But point was, if Ryo didn't move here, he was going to explode sometime soon. In Japan we ruled as one. No other family could dare touch our people or territories. Consequently, there were no tension or major disruptions Ryo could attend to.

Here? The story was quite different. There were many prominent families and regardless of our firm holding of our territories, there was always competition. And war was always a possibility. And they were rarely one on one. Even at this place right now. Sure, everyone here save for the Lombardi's and ourselves were connected through marriage or potential marriage, but the possibility of betrayal and backstabbing is so high, even I could participate and cause problematic tension. That was definitely something that could never happen back home.

Turning my attention to the bride in her simple yet elegant off the shoulder, satin A-line dress with her now husband who was towering over her, I try to imagine how those two have made it work. If I thought my early life was awful, I don't even know how to describe her life, with the baggage and all. I can't even envision some man being able to even partially take a load of my not so lovely experiences let alone accept them and dig out the true persona behind it.

The newlywed couple, with Luke Taylor, the husband placing a possessive hand on the bride's waist come over closer to us as Ryo and I meet them halfway.

"You're doing the talking" Ryo bends down to whisper in my ear before we meet them. He may not be the best sweet pleasantry talker, but neither was I. Nonetheless, I say yes anyway.

"Congratulations on your marriage, thank you for inviting us on your special day." I say, Ryo giving a nod in greeting or agreeance, I wasn't too sure.

"Thank you. It's a pleasure having you here. I hope you enjoy the rest of the day." Alaina, the bride chirps with a big bright smile. Smiles usually unsettled me, that was why I felt grounded with my brother, and father who only smiled to stimulate happiness or contentment for the person they were having conversation with. But her smile, I decided was nice. It suited her.

"Can I assume that you'll make yourself a permanent figure? Your family has left the States for a while now." The husband now speaks up. Usually when those words were uttered alone, I would assume it was laced with sarcasm or maybe in mockery but instead, he said it with no-nonsense attitude and there was no space for negative connotations. Just straight to the point. I was going to reply back but Ryo beat me to it.
