------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------It was a stupid choice to wander around the estate that I don't own or belong to. But the faint sound of something being suspended in the air lodging itself into another something had piqued my interest. It couldn't be something mundane like footballs and it couldn't be something boring like bullets. The sound was far too quiet for that.
Initially, I was guided by some people, but I excused myself with the usual excuse of needing to go to the bathroom. Following the sound, I walk along the wood finished flooring towards the other end of the place. It lead to what I assumed was the backyard, which was vast but by no means empty. A traditional Asian garden filled the space with various plants and flowers that were sophisticatedly trimmed as though each and every one of them had a purpose in which it grew.
Beyond the garden, someone, wearing what I knew was a white kimono top and a skirt? No, it wasn't a skirt, it was trousers that looked like a skirt. She wore a thick glove on her dominant hand in which held the bowstring and arrow but not on the other.
Taking her time, she steadily pulls back the bowstring and arrow, aiming it across the target that was about 90 feet away from her. Once she seemed to be satisfied with her aim, she releases the bow.
In the moment, it felt as though time slowed. The arrow suspended in the air, flying, aiming straight towards the target.
By the time I knew it, the arrow lodged itself in the target, directly in the centre of it and I was mindlessly walking towards her. For reasons unknown to me, that was a sight to see.
I was broken from my trance when an arrow flies directly next to me. Missing me by an inch or so before lodging itself into a large tree nearby. She remained in her stance, ready to release another, smiling at me, clearly not the greeting kind.
What the fuck?
"Is killing people your favorite pastime?" I draw out still walking towards her. Hair short length hair was tied back into one and piercing deep brown eyes stared back at me. I swear this whole family could perceive through human flesh and gauge human emotion to use it to their advantage, all the while building a wall that others have no access to.
"Generally speaking, no. But if I must, I don't mind." She replies back. I was aware she was born here but knowing she completed her middle and high school education in Japan, I had assumed she had some sort of accent.
She didn't. She spoke effortlessly with each word refined into elegance.
"What are you doing here?"
"That's a question I'd like to question you."
Okay, she wasn't your typical shy princess.
"I'm here to visit your father."
"Ah of course, because that explains why you're here." Her heads dips down at her mentioning the word 'here', while still ready to release another arrow, still aimed straight at me. From the other shot, I knew she was more than capable lodging that shit into me. Only those with high precision were capable to shoot and make sure it miss by less than inch. Or at least that's what I hope she did.
"Call it interest. Is that the only deadly interest the Yakuza princess likes to do during her free time?"
"For someone who is aiming for the top seat, you sure do have a luxurious amount of time in your hands. Would you like the full list?"
"Sure, I'd like to make excuses for being late."
She remains almost impassive. Almost. The slight arch in her brow displayed something. Whether that something was interest or disgust I didn't know.
"Kyudo, which is this." She begins motioning at her bow, which she finally drops from my aim, "You would probably know it as archery although the two are not the same. Kendo, which I guess is similar to fencing but they're again, nothing alike. Various martial arts because men never seem to understand the word no and shooting."
This princess was definitely dangerous.
"Any favourites? In terms of shooting, I mean."
"I've only ever used Tokarev if that's what you mean. Oh, and rifles. I started them recently. But now that I'm here where guns seems to be overflowing and sold anywhere, I might get my hands on other types."
"No, you won't." That fucker of her brother approaches. I'm not even in surprised he's here. It was a miracle that he wasn't here in the first place. These two were quite literally glued together at all times out in the public and I for one, half expected that applied in the home as well.
"Exploring weaponry never hurts." I dryly comment not even bothering to look at him.
"She doesn't need to explore."
"She already seems to have deep knowledge in it. Why can't she?"
"I apologise for interrupting your deep conversation but the person in interest is right over here." She interrupts walking over to the two of us, with all her gears and excess arrows in hand. "But clearly that never seems to be an important matter, so the person of interest will now return inside." She glares at each of us then, walks off in the direction towards of the estate before taking her shoes off and stepping inside.
In the whole duration of her returning back, her obviously over-protective brother watched her as she does so. As though letting his attention away from her would lead into some kind of disaster.
He returns his attention to me only when she was safe inside.
"Everyone is waiting for you. You should be more than aware that this is our turf. Our words are law. Not yours. And before you mention, we may currently have a peaceful status, however, it does not directly suggest the idea that it will remain that way. Especially given your careless attitude."
This fucker hates me.
"Perhaps that's what you'd like."
"Perhaps so." He replies back not even attempt to hide like he usually does in front of everyone else but me.
"Don't worry, I endeavour to keep it peaceful."
"Then I do suggest you remove yourself from situations that indicates the idea that you want to ruin that so called peace."
"Will do." I reply and in his usual demeanour, he leaves the scene to where we were supposed to meet up. If it were any other guy I'd try to make out a conversation. Find more info about what the person I'm dealing with is like and what kind of slip ups or lies they spout carelessly. But with him, the chance of a slip up was the same as of seeing a live dinosaur living alongside with humans, so I just follow in silence.
My interaction with the Princess may not have been the best in terms of outcomes but I was just satisfied with the fact that I could listen to her voice that was directed towards me.
There was something about the princess that intrigued me though. Unlike the rest of her family and organization I had interacted with who were apathetic to put it lightly, she actually had emotions and reacted on them.
If there was one thing to make them react, that would be her.
Interesting.
