------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------It's been three hours too long before we were certain of her whereabouts. But like all worst scenarios that seems to roll in one after another, it just had to be a random place in the middle of fucking nowhere two hours away from where we were.
We manage to reduce that time to a little under 45 minutes by a helicopter and we stood directly behind the door of a dilapidated building that could potentially come crumbling down in a matter of days or now depending on the situation outside.
"You take care of her. I'll take care of the rest." Sakurazuki orders and it was an order I was more than willing to take. Having him take care of our surroundings was for the best. I sure as shit couldn't care less about my surroundings right now when the only person on my mind was her.
Moments later, we shove through the door, all of us with our weapons raised as we rush in. Surprisingly it was devoid of humans, but the place was just as filthy as the screen could show. Cardboards, crates, and other forms of rubbish littered the floors and dust filled all crevices and barely any light seeped through the grimy windows. It created a perfect ominous feel that was more than suitable for a place to kidnap and kill. I wouldn't have expected less from a traitor of one the most influential underworld organisation.
Taking the stairs that were located on the furthest side of the room, after a clear signal, we all ascended up and pound open another set of doors leading to a separate room that looked exactly identical to the one downstairs. A few continues to go further up the stairs while the rest of us run over and slam every door open to see which one she could possibly be in.
I pass by a fire exit and simple logic would tell you it will only lead outside. But instincts kick in and something about it didn't sit right. I open it, finding the flights of stairs that should be going down, were actually going up.
Wasting no time, I run up them, two steps at a time before coming to another set of doors.
"Oh dear. It seems they have found us." That traitor's voice filters outside the doors I currently stood behind. He didn't sound distressed or concerned about the fact that we were here. Instead, his tone suggested that he couldn't get enough of the situation he was in. Well, he was aware that he'll die one way or another. Scums with nothing to lose were fearless.
"Oh dear." She mocks, her voice barely present, mostly made of air.
But it was her voice. Minori's voice. She was still breathing, still alive.
"We win." Minori states and I could imagine what facial expression she had on. Determined, sharp, and confident.
"You will." He agrees, amused at her response. "But at what cost?"
"They'll get over my death quick enough." She scoffs. She needed to fucking understand how many people rely on her mere existence.
Absolutely fucking not.
I rein myself in, quietly gripping onto to the handles when someone attacks from behind. I dodge the kick and throw in a punch in the abdomen. He topples over and another comes from behind. The familiar sharp scent of metallic filters my senses and only enrages me all the more. Anticipating whoever was approaching me from behind, I grab his arms, using his force as my own before throwing him over and breaking his arm, eliciting a howling scream. I kill the sound stepping on his throat, confiscating the essence he needed for life. He tries get my feet off his neck, thrashing his body but that quickly slows, until there was no more movement at all.
With the area now clear, I grab the knob of the door, forcing it open, before I see another two men. One of them charges towards me, attempted to shove me towards the ground but I swerve to the left, wrap his neck around my arm before a shoot them on the side of the head. His body falls limp and I shove it away, noticing the other also coming for me from my peripheral vision.
This one was much larger in size, but skills were less than satisfactory, I shove an elbow into his abdomen making the weak being topple over. I knock him on the side of his face, then his nose, hearing the satisfying crunch as blood pour out. Not having the patience to enjoy this any longer I aim between his eyes shoots.
"You have no where to go." I call out facing the traitor before averting my eyes to Minori. I just take a moment to take her in.
She was struggling to breathe and her whole body was covered in deep red. Her face was pale in color, so pale that the contrast from her skin tone to the red, sticky blood made her almost seem like a ghost. But she was conscious, and she was looking at me.
In an attempt to reassure her, I give her a smile. She gives one back. A tired one but we'll fix that.
Returning my attention to the traitor I meet his gaze. There was always something off about him. Something similar to the Oyabun and Sakurazuki but something so very different.
Cold, apathetic, callous.
A pure monster.
He only thought about himself, like the narcissist he was. And I begin to remember someone else who was just like him. Only my mind chose to ignore it.
My own father.
Greed was the only thing they knew. Greed for status. Greed for fame. Greed for power. Ultimate power. That was the only way for them to achieve any sort of satisfaction. If I was empathetic, I would have felt sorry pitied them.
"We will win. On all sides." I say taunting him, slowly approaching her.
"Oh really?" He taunts, back arms raised with his gun pointing towards.
Her.
Time slows and I don't think.
I run.
I could hear her scream. Telling me no. Telling me to stop.
But I don't listen.
I hear two shots fire, one after the other.
I see him fall.
I feel myself falling.
But I fall with a smile. Knowing the she'll be safe. That she'll survive. Because she is strong. She is resilient.
If losing my life meant that she could live her life, I wouldn't regret a single thing.
