Why can't you see what you're doin' to me
When you don't believe a word I say?

At Pierce's home.

Pierce goes to his kitchen to get a drink when he sees the Winter Soldier sitting behind him with his gun on the table. He swallows the wad of saliva in his throat, but he keeps his cool, especially when his housekeeper calls out.

"I'm going to go, Mr. Pierce. Do you need anything before I leave?" Renata ask

"No. Uh...it's fine, Renata, you can go home." Pierce says

"Okay, night-night." Renata says

"Good night." Pierce says

Renata leaves.

"Want some milk?" Pierce asked as if he had a choice. Something about it brought sick pleasure to the secretary.

The Winter Soldier doesn't reply. He never replies.

"The timetable has moved. Our window is limited. Two targets, Level Six." Pierce says

He pours himself a glass of milk and goes over to join the Winter Soldier at the table.

"They already cost me Zola. I want confirmed death in ten hours." Pierce orders

Just then Renata interrupts them as she enters the kitchen.

"Sorry, Mr. Pierce, I...I forgot my phone." Renata says

She notices the Winter Soldier.

"Oh, Renata. I wish you would have knocked." Pierce says

Pierce picks up the gun from the table and shoots and kills her.

....

Returning home from his morning run, Sam hears a knock at his door. Tilting his head in confusion, he opens the door to see Steve, Sloan, and Natasha.

"Hey, man." Sam greets grimly. "I'm sorry about this. We need a place to lay low." Steve says

"Everyone we know is trying to kill us." Natasha says

Sam pauses a moment before replying.

"Not everyone." Sam says

Sam lets them enter.

....

Later as Steve, Sloan, and Natasha are cleaning up.

Nat sighs as she pats her hair dry, peering through the mirror at Sloan's flexing back. She hums appreciatively. Sloan turns his head just a bit as he lowers the muscle shirt. Their eyes meet, gaining a small smug smirk from Sloan and an eye roll from Natasha.

Steve notices Natasha looking sad and thoughtful, or what he assumed the look was.

"You okay?" Steve asks "Yeah." Natasha says "What's going on?" Steve asks

"When I first joined SHIELD, I thought I was going straight. But I guess I just traded in the KGB for HYDRA. I thought I knew whose lies I was telling, but...I guess I can't tell the difference anymore." Natasha says

Sloan sat at the other end of the bed, listening. His morals had changed since the forties, he brought Hydra into shield and now he's working against them. He could almost laugh.

"There's a chance you might be in the wrong business." Steve says

Natasha smiles faintly "I owe you." Natasha says "It's okay." Steve says

"If it was the other way around, and it was down to me to save your life, and you be honest with me, would you trust me to do it?" Natasha ask

"I would now. And I'm always honest." Steve says "Well, you seem pretty chipper for someone who just found out they died for nothing." Natasha says

"Well, I guess I just like to know who I'm fighting." Steve says, his gaze moving to the back of his brother's head, he helped create Shield, but he also helped destroy it.

A throat clears at the door of the bedroom, and all of them turn to see Sam watching them expectantly. "I made breakfast. If you guys...eat that sort of thing." Sam says

....

Later as they are sat in Sam's kitchen "So, the question is: who in SHIELD could launch a domestic missile strike?" Natasha ask

"Pierce." Sloan says "Who happens to be sitting on top of the most secure building in the world." Natasha says

"But he's not working alone, Zola's algorithm was on the Lemurian Star." Steve says

"So was Jasper Sitwell." Natasha says

"So, the real question is: how do the three most wanted people in Washington kidnap a SHIELD officer in broad daylight?" Sloan asks, it sounded fun, he hasn't gotten his hands dirty in two years, not since New York.

"The answer is: you don't." Sam says

Sam drops a file in front of Steve.

"What's this?" Steve asks "Call it a resume." Sam says

Natasha picks up a photo of Sam with his para-rescue team. Sloan peers over her shoulder, humming appreciatively. He looked good.

"Is this Bakhmala? The Khalid Khandil mission, that was you." Sloan asks, a little impressed.

Sam nods, crossing his arms over his chest.

To Steve. "You didn't say he was a para-rescue." Natasha says

Looking at the photo of Sam with his colleague "Is this Riley?" Steve asks "Yeah." Sam says

"I heard they couldn't bring in the choppers because of the RPGs. What did you use, a stealth chute?" Natasha asks

"No. These." Sam says

Sam hands Steve the file, Steve opens it and reads it.

"I thought you said you were a pilot." Steve says "I never said pilot." Sam says, earning a small smirk from Sloan.

"I can't ask you to do this, Sam. You got out for a good reason." Steve says "Dude, Captain America needs my help. There's no better reason to get back in." Sam says

"Where can we get our hands on one of these things?" Steve asks "The last one is at Fort Meade, behind three guarded gates and a twelve-inch steel wall." Sam says

Steve looks at Sloan who shrugs his shoulders.

"Shouldn't be a problem." Steve says

Steve throws down the file on the table and we see that it's a classified military project called Falcon.
