Natasha finally arrives at the hospital and meets up with Steve and Sloan. As she approaches the window, she watches doctors operating on Fury.
"Is he gonna make it?" Natasha asks "We don't know." Sloan says, his feelings were conflicted. Fury wasn't a friend, but they made excellent partners. "Tell me about the shooter." Natasha ask
"He's fast and strong. Had a metal arm." Steve says just then Agent Maria Hill also joins them "Ballistics?" Natasha ask
"Three slugs, no rifling. Completely untraceable." Maria says "Soviet-made." Natasha says "Yeah." Maria says
Suddenly they watch in shock as Fury's state deteriorates.
"He's in V-tach." The Male Nurse says "Crash cart coming in." The Female Nurse says "Nurse, help me with the drape." The doctor says "BP is dropping." Male Nurse says
"Defibrillator!" Doctor yells
Steve, Sloan, Natasha, and Hill watch in shock as Fury is flatlining.
"I want you to charge him at one hundred." Doctor says "Don't do this to me, Nick." Natasha says "Stand back! Three, two, one. Clear!" Doctor yells
Fury is given a shock with the defibrillator "Pulse?" The doctor continues "No pulse." Male Nurse says "Okay. 200, please. Stand back! Three, two, one. Clear!" Doctor yells
Fury is given another shock "Give me epinephrine! Pulse?" The doctor continues "Negative." Male Nurse says
"Don't do this to me, Nick. Don't do this to me." Natasha chants, Sloan looks to her and back to Fury, humming to himself.
The four watch the doctors as they continue to revive Fury but Fury is still showing as flatlining.
Steve turns away as they finally call his time of death "What's the time?" Doctor asks "1:03, Doctor." Female Nurse says
"Time of death, 1:03 a.m." Doctor says
Steve looks down at the flash drive Fury had given him.
....
Natasha and Steve are in a room where Fury's dead body has been laid out.
Natasha is looking at Fury's body with tears running down her face.
Hill joins them "I need to take him." Hill says
Steve goes over to Natasha "Natasha." Steve says
She doesn't respond, instead, she tenderly touches Fury's head then turns and walks out, Steve follows her.
"Natasha!" Steve calls out "Why was Fury in your apartment?" Natasha asks "I don't know." Steve says
They are interrupted by Rumlow.
"Cap, they want you back at SHIELD." Brock says "Yeah, give me a second." Steve says "They want you now." Brock says
"Okay," Steve says
Steve turns to Natasha "You're a terrible liar." Natasha says she turns and walks off.
On earpiece.
"STRIKE team, escort Captain Rogers back to SHIELD immediately for questioning." Sitwell says "I told him." Brock says
Steve notices the vending machine next to him, we then see Steve walking towards Rumlow.
"Let's go." Steve says "Yeah. [to the agents] STRIKE, move it out." Brock says
As they leave we see that Steve has hidden the flash drive behind a pack of gums in the vending machine.
....
Fury's room.
Sloan stood over Fury's still body, ignoring the outside world. "I finished Project Sight. But I guess I was too late." Sloan says, the mutant scoffs to himself, looking down at the flash drive in his hand.
Suddenly Sloan's phone rings. He sighs and pulls it out of his back pocket, answering without looking at the caller's idea. Only four people had his personal cell.
"Hello." Sloan answers
"Papa." A timid voice whispers
The tension in Sloan's shoulders drains away. "I was just about to call. How's Dubai?" Sloan asks
"Boring without you. You promised you'll be on a plane by now?" Seo-Joon says
"I know, but something came up." Sloan says "Uncle Fisk is getting married in three days, mama is horrible at comforting people and everyone is running around like headless chickens." Seo-Joon says
Sloan chuckles. "And that's boring to you." Sloan asks, this earns a small laugh. "No. But we barely get to see you now that you are an Avenger." Seo-Joon says
Sloan doesn't correct him. "Yeah well, I promise, once I finish up here, you get me for two weeks instead of one. I will even let you teach me how to ride a skateboard." Sloan promises
"You better keep that promise." Seo-Joon threatens
"Cross my heart." Sloan whispers into the line, and the call then disconnects. Sloan pulls the phone away, looking towards Fury's body.
With a hum, he pockets the phone, approaching the body. "I am not doing this for you." Sloan whispers, he slides the flash drive under Fury's palm.
If Project Insight launches, everyone he knows, and everyone he works with will be exposed, he couldn't have that.
