Weeks later.
In TV news montage about The Avengers, we see various reports of what happened. Some people agree that the Avengers did good, protecting the city. Others believe it was their cause.
"Superheroes? In New York? Give me a break!" An old man says
"These so-called heroes have to be held responsible for the destruction done to the city. This was their fight. Where are they now?" Senator Boynton asks
"What? That this was somehow their fault? The CEO Sloan Adams saved my life. Wherever he is, wherever any of them are, I just wanna say thank you." A waitress says. She stood before Sloan's building a soft flush on her cheeks.
....
The Avengers take Thor and Loki, who is handcuffed and muzzled, to a blocked area. Thor shakes hands with his team and hugs Selvig.
Sloan approaches the muffled god and he offers him a small smirk. "It's truly a pity, maybe if you had kept your ambitions smaller, we might've been great together." Sloan whispers. Loki's green eyes slowly look him up and down, humming his reply.
Tony opens the Tesseract's case. Banner takes it out and places it inside a glass tube, held by Thor.
Thor gives Loki the other end, who reluctantly takes it. Finally, Sloan steps away, putting on his sunglasses as he steps beside his brother, buttoning up his suit.
The Asgardians leap into the energy beam. Gone. Then, one by one, the group splinters off, strolling in different directions.
Banner climbs in with Tony in his sportscar. Natasha and Clint climb back into shield cars.
Steve turns to his brother, He clears his throat, but before he can speak, Sloan interrupts him. "Are you still living in that slum apartment?" Sloan asks
Steve coughs, "It's not all bad." Steve says
Sloan hums, "Well you're the brother of a CEO, I can't have you ruining my image. I'll have the movers sent to your apartment. Roberta will send you the address." Sloan says, leaving no room for argument before he backs away and turns to his Audi.
Steve watches his brother leave, a small smile appearing on his lips, before he approaches his Harley bike, swinging the keys in his grasp.
They all part. For now.
....
Fury is facing once more members of the World Security Council. "Where are the Avengers?" The World Security Council #3 asks
"I'm not currently tracking their whereabouts. I'd say they've earned a leave of absence." Fury says
"And the Tesseract?" The World Security Council #2 asks "The Tesseract is where it belongs: out of our reach." Fury says
"That's not your call." Security council #1 says "I didn't make it. I just didn't argue with the god that did." Fury says "So you let him take it and the war criminal, Loki, who should be answering for his crimes?" The World Security Council #1 says
"Oh, I think he will be." Fury says "I don't think you understand what you've started. Letting the Avengers loose on this world. They're dangerous." The World Security Council # 1 says
"They surely are. And the whole world knows it. Every world knows it." Fury says
"Was that the point of all this? A statement?" The World Security Council #1 asks "A promise." Fury says
Fury walks out, towards the bridge.
Fury and Agent Hill walk together, toward the window looking out into the world. "Sir, how does it work now? They've gone their separate ways, some pretty extremely far. We get into a situation like this again, what happens then?" Hill asks "They'll come back." Fury says
"You sure about that?" Hill asks "I am." Fury says "Why?" Hill asks
"Because we'll need them to." Fury says
Agent Hill turns around. Fury looks out, smiling.
Tony and Pepper unveil a new Design for Stark Tower. Outside, the building stands tall, the letters for 'Stark Tower' have been blown away, and all that remains is a giant A.
