Would it be a sin?

。.✦ ☾

Sloan enters the clear double doors, sunglasses a permanent fixture on his face, he didn't bother taking them off as he entered his building.

He approaches the front desk and he leans against the marble counter. "Mr Rogers, good morning, would you like me to order your morning coffee?" Felicia asks, her dark eyes peering up at her boss.

Sloan offers a flirty grin. "I would appreciate it and tell Roberta that I'd like to meet with her in my office," Sloan says, he steps away from the counter and makes his way to his elevator, placing his thumb on the pad before stepping away.

....

Sloan throws his sweater onto his desk, rolling up his sleeves to reveal tattoos wrapping around his wrist and up his arms. The door to his office opens and a frail older lady enters the room.

"Roberta, you look lovely as ever," Sloan says, approaching the woman to offer a kiss on the cheek. Roberta scoffs softly, smiling. "You better stop your flirting with your staff Mr. Rogers or we will have to have a meeting with HR." Roberta teases

Sloan playfully groans, clutching at his chest. "You wound me, darling, now come along, we have much to discuss," Sloan says, motioning towards the chairs.

....

"Your brother is alive." Roberta breathes, her face pale and her eyes wide. Sloan hums, gently sliding a cup of tea across the small table and towards her. Roberta shakily grabs it and she slowly sips the steaming cup, the color returning to her face.

"That's a lot to take in my dear, how are you fairing?" Roberta asks after a few moments of silence.

Sloan hums, lifting his chin and scratching at his stubbled jaw. "I have had 70-something years to mourn, I've moved on, I will not deny him my company, but I can live without him," Sloan says, his fingers skirting along the wood of his chair. "Now enough about the past, Steve wasn't what I wanted to discuss with you. I'll be leaving for a few weeks and I need you to take control of the company for those weeks." Sloan says

"Dear I am an old lady, I can't do much," Roberta says, raising her freckled hand and gently sweeping away her white hair. Sloan smiles, amused. "I trust you, and you don't have to do much, this company practically runs itself. I just won't be here to make the decisions." Sloan states he crosses his legs, peering over at Roberta.

Roberta sighs deeply. "Where are you going that you won't be able to make a phone call or two?" Roberta asks softly. Sloan hums, he knew Fury would have his head if said anything, but this was Roberta. "It's a shield, they lost a weapon against this alien of sorts and they want me and a couple of others to retrieve it. Including my dear brother." Sloan states he looks down and straightens his shirt before looking back at his close companion.

"You've gotten soft, helping the good?" Roberta teases "Shield is hardly good. I trust you and that says a lot. We've been through hell and back together, I need you one last time." Sloan says

Roberta stands and she makes her way over to Sloan, gently cupping his cheek. "You're a good boy, even if you make bad decisions from time to time. I will do this because I love you but then I'm retiring." Roberta states

Sloan chuckles. "20 years old you would rage at those words," Sloan says, gently cradling her hand against his cheek. "Well, she didn't have arthritis," Roberta says

Sloan smiles, standing and offering her a soft kiss on her head before stepping away from her. "How are the kids?" Sloan asks "Jenny misses you, misses your stories and Victor is waiting for that bike you promised." Roberta says

Sloan chuckles. "The bike has been shipped and tell Jenny that when I'm back I'll have one more story to tell her.....Bert.... Did I keep you from retiring?" Sloan asks

Roberta smiles softly, shaking her head. "No, you blessed me, your shadow kiss kept me on my feet a lot longer than those of my age. It was a pleasure to work for you Sloan, my best friend." Roberta says softly

Sloan smiles.
