Away from the Action

Towards the end of SSAS, Zoe thinks about how she wants to leave DADD.

Zoe was in need of a change. She always wound up sidelined from all of the best action. Case in point, this. Zoe hadn't been allowed to go on the cruise ship with Ben, Mike, and the Hales, and so now she was stuck hearing about it all from back in the boring safety of Washington, D.C. Helping, but not really.

Zoe didn't want to come off to the people at DADD as ungrateful, but it wasn't like she had a ton to be grateful for anyway. She was lonely and terribly, terribly bored. Zoe never wanted to have to see another filing cabinet again unless she was hiding behind it on a mission or dramatically extracting top secret files from it.

Zoe vowed that the next mission they all got called away for, she would go, regardless of whether her time with DADD was up. She had snuck onto missions before, and she could do so again. Because it was looking like that might be what she had to do, technically allowed or not.

But, for now, Zoe was doing whatever she could do to help with this mission, to make it clear to the Hales that she still wanted to be a part of all this. Whether or not they would care to notice, Zoe didn't know, but she also just didn't know what else to do. Zoe couldn't exactly walk up to them and say, "Hey, it'd be really nice if you'd let me back on the team." That wasn't going to work at all, and Zoe knew it. So she was stuck waiting, hoping that this next mission might fall into her lap, not Ben's, for a change.
