Is this really the best way to avoid ninjas?

Ben

My first class at Spy School was Self Preservation 101 with Professor Crandall, where I got what turned out to be both useless and only partially true advice.

"The best way to avoid ninjas is to stay out of Japan."

Well, no duh. Or, at least, that's what you would think. However, despite having never been to Japan, I have faced off against ninjas once before. Somewhat ironically, this "battle" (if you could even call it that - I ran away, got my backpack chopped in half, and was then knocked unconscious) happened in Self Preservation 101. The very same teacher that told all of us that the best way of avoiding ninjas was staying out of Japan sent ninjas to attack me as a pop quiz on the very first day of a class that was most definitely not held in Japan.

I would say that Crandall's Fifty-Eighth Law of Self Preservation is true. I mean, of course there are cases of ninja attacks other places, but, anecdotally, it's been working out pretty well for me so far. I'm not sure that the law has any practical use, but at least it's somehow not the dumbest thing a teacher has told me.
