Alexander leaves the CIA at the beginning of ESS.
Alexander took all the staplers he could when he left. He knew the CIA didn't trust him with them now.
Erica glaring at him all summer only made Alexander feel worse as everything he'd cheated for crumbled around him. Now his work life was the same as his home life: disappointing.
Alexander knew what the new hole in this building meant, this promise of a redemption mission, but he wasn't ready to recover yet.
He needed more time, time to get over this new level of disappointment, time to grieve his image, time to refocus.
Only then could he rebuild.
