Trixie doesn't want to go to kindergarten.

"I don't want to go," Trixie said.

"Trixie, everyone goes to kindergarten," Catherine said.

"Erica didn't."

"Yes, well, she did, just not for very long. So please come on."

Trixie shook her head. "Why should I go?" she asked. "What would I even do there?"

"Oh, loads of fun stuff," Catherine said.

"Then how come Erica didn't keep going?"

Catherine sighed. "Things just didn't work out for her, but I'm sure that they will work out perfectly fine for you, so get up and come on. You're going to be late if you don't come now."

"But what if I don't like it? What if it's boring?"

"We don't know anything for sure, so come on, and we'll find out," Catherine said.

"But I want to go places with you and Erica," Trixie said.

"I just take her to work with me most days," Catherine said. "Do you really want to spend all day everyday in museums?"

"Yes," Trixie said. "I never get to spend time with you guys. I'm always with Grandma and Grandpa. I want to go have fun with you."

"That's really not an option the way things are right now," Catherine said. "So get in the car, or you'll be stuck going to work with your father, since I have meetings today."

"Will Erica be there?" Trixie asked.

"No, she's going to something with your grandfather. This will just be you tagging along wherever your dad decides he's going to go today."

"Fine," Trixie said. "I'll go to kindergarten. But only today. Not tomorrow."

"Of course," Catherine said, only because the next day was a Saturday.
