Spoilers for Spy School Goes North
A diary entry of Zoe's post-SSGN, as she updates her diary on what's happened and why her diary is no longer her greatest love. A bit of a response to the diary entry of hers at the end of the exclusive edition.
Dear Diary (even though you are no longer my dearest love, that does not mean you have become useless),
I have evened things out. One person turned evil because he liked me and now one person turned good because she liked me. Svetlana turned her back on everything she knew just to be with me and to do good. This really is the best feeling in the world.
Most of the time, at least. I accidentally fell into the water yesterday while I was walking because I was busy thinking about Svetlana, and then Erica had to fish me out. And that was cold and kind of embarrassing. But then I went back to camp and dried off, and Catherine made tea for Svetlana and me, and I got to sit and drink it with her for almost an hour before Catherine shooed us back outside for training. So that part was pretty good.
Svetlana's been helping me with learning Russian, so I get to spend time with her and call it training, which is just awesome. My Russian still sucks, but that just means I'll have a much stronger excuse to go and practice it. Unfortunately, at this rate I'll be fluent in a month or so, so I might have to fake incompetence just to get more tutoring. Not that that'll be all too hard. And it'll certainly be worth it.
When Svetlana's not tutoring me in Russian, she's been coming along with me on long runs through the woods. We don't go all that fast, so that we can talk to each other. Her life is fascinating, and I just love hearing her talk to me about it. Her life also kind of sucks, but I'm good with hearing about that too. Because at least then she has someone to talk to about how she just left everything, for better or for worse.
I also tell her about my life, even though I don't feel like my life's quite so interesting. But Svetlana thinks it is, or at least she acts like she thinks it is. I just don't want to sound boring or anything like that. She gave up a ton to come be here with me, and I don't want to make it not worth it.
Also, Cyrus has still been acting kind of suspicious of Svetlana, which isn't too great. I think Catherine yelled (well, talked sternly) at him about it a little because he's been avoiding her these last couple of days, but at least Cyrus hasn't been so terrible about everything. (I also heard Alexander muttering about getting Cyrus's head checked, which given the number of concussions the guy's had, that probably isn't such a bad idea. And would maybe explain why he's been such a jerk lately.) But he really has started to cool off a little. (And been gifted a stack of scientific journals.)
But things with Svetlana really have been great. Just jumping headfirst into this might have been a little stupid, but it has worked out. I got what I wanted in a very different way than I had expected, but it's been absolutely amazing.
Unfortunately for you, though, diary, all this means I'll probably be writing in you way less, seeing as you won't be my only option for confiding in, but I think you can live with that. (Not that you were ever alive in the first place.)
Well, I've got to go now. We're all going on a "fun hike." Which, given who said it would be fun, probably means a dangerous hike. But oh well. I don't mind a little danger. It keeps things exciting.
I'll write to you again, probably, but bye for now, diary.
Your madly in love (but no longer with you) friend,
Zoe (who is still working on finding you a place safe from the wildlife)
I don't really know how to interpret this relationship yet, but here's my first try at it.
