Two weeks went by rather quickly. To say comfortable would be an understatement for the vampires. Because even though Raze was suspended for a whole month, many wolves who are not happy with the decision boycotted them. But it's something the vampires are already used too so they'd rather just bear with it than have Raze back.
On the other hand...
Shadow and Bright had been spending their time together every after class. They'll always be seen going to the library together. Bright's bad sense of direction got himself stuck with the wolf and every time that their class ends, he would accompany her to walk Emily to their dorm before they go to the library.
It did sparked a lot of controversies among their peers. But Bright isn't interested to listening to other people's groundless conversations and neither Shadow is interested of listening to someone else unless family. So the two of them aren't aware of the rumours surrounding them.
Though Nicholas had brought it once in their dorm when Bright and Gab was preparing for their performance. But the two vampires paid no attention to it since they are more focus at the task at hand.
Lilac has been scheduling practice a lot of times so they have to be in their utmost focus now that the school's acquaintance party is at the corner.
"Are you not going to practice? The performance is tomorrow." Shadow said as they walked out of the library.
She noticed that Bright didn't ask her for help to find the music club which he usually does everytime they exit the library. He still get lost and already missed a practice once so he didn't wanna take chances again.
"Lilac said we can skip today and just relax. Our performance is already perfect so we have the evening to ourselves." Bright answered and briefly looked at her.
"What about you? It's Friday... Are you going home?" He asked. His tone sounded a little unclear though.
Bright would be lying if he says he doesn't enjoy her company. Shadow is very loud and outgoing and there is a lot more to her that meets the eyes. He got the privilege to see that as they spend more time together in detention. And before he realized it, Bright had gotten comfortable on her presence despite being a she-alpha.
He is learning a lot from her more than he expected. Shadow's longing to join their pack's bonfire and hunt are usually the start of their conversation. Although not in the way to make Bright feel guilty. She'd unconsciously talk about their pack as if they are the most precious thing to her.
Bright couldn't deny that he is envious of her relationship with her pack. He never had that. He was raised and treated like a saint by his people. And when he got the chance to be free, he was betrayed.
Unlike Shadow. Hundreds of wolves would die trying to be part of her pack. She didn't need to do big just to prove that she is better than Raze in every way. And maybe that's one of her charms."No. I won't make it to the bonfire even if I go now. And besides, I already accepted the fact that I'm not gonna be able to join them for a while." The girl replied with a dejected sigh.
"It won't be long now... Your detention will end in a week." Bright said in attempt to comfort her.
"You're right. So I guess we won't be going there together anymore." Shadow mumbled but Bright heard what she said and he could sense that she is sad about it.
"Why are you sad? Aren't you happy you won't spend time with me anymore?" Bright blatantly asked, making Shadow stop walking immediately and looked up to him.
"I don't hate spending time with you." She said as she stared at him with an unreadable expression.
If Bright had been learning a lot from her in just a span of two weeks. Shadow is no different. Spending time with Bright made her realize how she is so obssessed of her pack. As much as she wanted to stop, she couldn't help but always talk about them with Bright who is a vampire. And everytime she sees him react, she'd realize that Bright would never understand what it means to her because they don't do it.
He is a nomad. Forced to live a long life while being watched and tormented by her kind. But unlike other nomads, Bright acts differently. Or maybe because he isn't even a nomad in the first place.
Shadow's suspicion for him are fed everyday as she learns more and more about the mysterious vampire.
Bright's image is like a rare beauty painted by the Gods. His looks are incomparable. And she knows that Bright had not drank blood the whole time they've been spending together. She can easily tell whenever vampires feed because their eyes are so red anyone would think its bleeding. Aside from their eyes, they also smell like blood.
But Bright's eyes are always red which is also odd because nomads and vampires don't always have red eyes unless full moon or if they recently drank blood. Their eyes would either be dandelion or black on normal days. But Bright's eyes has always been red. Anybody can tell that he is a vampire.
No nomad or vampire will stay sane without drinking blood for 3 weeks and counting.
She had looked into it once by cutting classes just to go home and checked the ancient books that their family kept. Many books about pureblood had been burned because not everyone wanted them to be remembered in history. Her research informed her that purebloods can survive for as long as 2 weeks without blood. A month would be the maximum if they are strong enough to survive it. Many of the traits she learned from the books are also identical to what she sees on Bright.
But compared 2 weeks ago. She would've been happy to find out that she got her hands on the heir of the blood empire. And securing her claim to the castle.
But learning it now while also learning more about the mysterious pureblood... Bright is just like everyone else in town. His mind is calm and only wants to find peace. He is smart and a fast learner too which may be why nobody suspects him. Except her.
Shadow is torn whether she'd proceed as planned. Or remain as his good friend that would keep his secret for him.
"I thought you still hate me." Bright said as he starts fidgeting with his fingers. Indicating that he's anxious.
Shadow suddenly smiled at him. And Bright swore he definitely felt his dead heart came back to life.
"I don't. I was just too obsessed of my pack I forgot the world does not revolve around us." She said followed by a playful chuckle.
"You're not obsessed with them. They are your family. It's natural you'll feel that way."
"Yes. But one month is nothing given how we've seen each other since we're in diapers!" Shadow replies and laughing at the last part.
Bright also laughed lightly and Shadow couldn't help but just observe him again.
"What about you, Bright? Where's your family?" She asked. Her intention was either curiousity or feeding her suspicions more.
Bright's smile eventually faded. Lowering his head a bit as he try to ignore the stabbing feeling of his memory of them.
"I've forgotten all about them." Was all he said. Shadow knew right away that he doesn't want to talk about them.
Maybe at least not to her. She is an alpha after all. And it was her family who killed his father in battle. Bright's family aren't as bright as his name. Old stories said that they were the most powerful and evil. Vampires see their family as Gods. And killing them gave great pleasure to humans, werewolves and even for half bloods and nomads.
Bright is the living son of Count Gellert. Alive all this time with the knowledge of his family's downfall is probably what made him so dull of emotions now. Despite vampires being a natural empty case of emotions, they still show it at the right moment.
But him. He must've been traumatized considering his age when his family was destroyed by Shadow's ancestors.
"That's alright. You got a new family now." Shadow said attempting to comfort him too. "You have Elijah, Nicholas and Gabriel who will always have your back. And that's what family does." She said to him and seeing him smile made her heart full.
She wanted to smile back. And the more she observes, the more it is obvious that he is paler than normal. His complexion looks dead than normal and looked unhealthy for a vampire.
"Do you wanna go hunting with me?"
