Silence.
That was probably the only thing that Shadow loved at that moment.
Her heart finally feels light as she stayed still on her spot. She looks at the hunter and the disappointment on their faces states that nobody expected her to give up her chance like that.
Everyone knows that the hunters only pick apprentices once in five years. And they've agreed to pick only 5 from their school.
It was Shadow's first and last chance to prove herself and she ruined it. But Shadow is proud to say she would not regret it.
"Shadow! Shadow what's wrong?"
"Didn't you hear the whistle?"
"We should tell them to do it again!"
She could hear everyone talk about her. It was becoming louder so she finally decided to leave. Give the chance for the actual winner to celebrate themselves without her hogging the attention.
The alpha knew that those who knew her would question her nonstop. And that's the last thing she'd want after making a scene.
So she decided to go somewhere only when she goes. To the wild forest where she once brought Bright. As soon as she was alone. It was finally coming back to her all at once.
Shadow spent her whole life training to become the strongest alpha from her pack. All to become a hunter her family would be proud of.
And she had thrown that all away by giving up the one chance she had to prove herself worthy.
She knew the consequences of her actions. The disappointment she could face. But it will all be worth it if it's the right thing she could do for someone.
Shadow is the only existing wolf to know who's the heir of the blood empire. She has the power to bring him in and take all the riches and glory for good.
But after getting to know Bright.
"He does not deserve it..." Shadow muttered to herself.
There was a short silence before Shadow began sobbing. Her quiet cries slowly becoming loud until she was finally crying her heart out.
It would be a lie if she says giving up is easy. When winning has been her only dream growing up.
And now she doesn't have it. She doesn't know what her dream is anymore.
She only wanted to keep away from the one thing that she knows very well. That it could destroy Bright.
She didn't expect she'd care about him more than she thought.
"Who didn't deserve what?"
Shadow abruptly stopped crying and turned around. Immediately seeing Bright standing about a meter away from her.
He looks absolutely worried. He wanted to come and comfort her but he figured distance is what she needs from him right now. He just couldn't bear to not have her on his sight knowing how she'd feel right now.
"W-what are you doing here?!"
"I... I don't mean any harm. I-I just... wanted to make sure you're okay."
"I'm fine! Just go! I don't need you here!"
Though I wish he'd stay...
Shadow thought at the back of her mind.Bright isn't a telepath. But he could somehow sense she wanted him to stay. He wouldn't leave anyway even if she asked.
"I'm sorry. I don't know what's running in your head. But I'm sorry this has to happen." He said to her while keeping his ground. Waiting for her to let her guard down and allow him to come closer.
