"No! You have to stay here! Why can't you just listen for once!" Elijah scolds Bright for the third time when he attempts to leave again.

The vampire looked so frustrated. He was insisting to see Shadow because he could feel that she doesn't feel okay. They were supposed to go to the woods to hunt but she hasn't returned for hours.

Bright could hear her thoughts even from afar. He did not have any second thoughts on granting her wish knowing how much she wanted it that moment. And from that, he could tell that her conversation with her pack did not go well.

"Emily is already looking for her! Just stay put okay! It's not gonna be of help to her if you're seen together! Especially now!" Elijah said to him while trying to drag the vampire back to his bed.

"Elijah's right, Bright. Shadow will have to face her pack one way or another. They had high expectations from her, it's only normal that they'll be disappointed for what she did." Nicholas added.

Bright dropped himself on the couch. Palming his face with frustration as he laid down.

"This is all my fault." He whispered but loud enough for Elijah and Gabriel to hear.

"How is this your fault? She's the one who gave up her chance to be a hunter. It has nothing to do with you." Elijah said to him.

"At least Shadow finally realized that being a hunter is not all worth it. They're literally just after a huge deal of gold and it's no different than selling their souls to the demon for it." Gabriel commented.

"I would agree. I'd say it's pathetically cheap! Imagine the many years of training they spent all because they're all crazy for gold that was never theirs to begin with." Nicholas chuckled.

"But didn't you want to be a hunter too?" Elijah asked and looked at Gabriel with furrowed brows.

"At least I know what I'm after. I'm not like those wolves who are pretending to be so compassionate and righteous when we're all obviously after the same thing." The nomad retorted.

"Why is it so important for them to claim the Blood Empire anyway?" Bright questioned. He and Gabriel had spoken about it before but he wanted to hear a deeper reason now that they're talking about it.

"Because the elders think that the more wealth they have, the bigger their influence becomes." Elijah said with a sad smile.

"I also trained to be a hunter. And when I decided to stop, it isolated me from my pack. Until I was eventually kicked out. Because they think that not having the same belief as them is no different than siding with the enemy."

"Correction. You mean siding with the vampires." Gabriel scoffed.

"You said they isolated you. Does that mean it could happen to Shadow too?" Bright asked and immediately sat up while looking at Elijah.

"That's alright! She can just join us and we'll make our own pack!" Nicholas said in a playful tone making the other three laugh at his idea.

"That doesn't sound so bad." Gabriel said with a genuine smile.

"You're right. But it's not that easy for us. A wolf that does not belong to a pack does not just feel isolated. It will make us feel like we have no role nor a part to play in this world. Especially us, alphas."

"But life continues to run and if we don't keep up, we'll be left behind. Some who were kicked out of their own pack would build their own. Just to feel that they still belong among the kin. Otherwise, we'd be treated no differently than humans."
