Shadow had just arrived home. She would usually feel excited to meet the pack but today somehow felt evidently different. She already knows what to expect and yet, it still makes her feel anxious like her stomach is turning.
"I almost thought you were planning to run away." Raze suddenly appeared in the hallway that leads to the common room where almost everyone from the pack hangs out when they are indoors.
Shadow simply deadpanned at him. And the way Raze was smiling smugly was making her infuriated.
"I could tell you prayed so much to our God for this to happen." She said with sarcasm and Raze laughed.
"I didn't have to. I always knew you'll get yourself in trouble." Raze said as he blocked her way.
The alpha looked down at her with a proud and devilish smirk. An expression Shadow wanted to badly rip off from his face.
"That's why I didn't have to put so much effort into showing off to our family! Look how far you fell down." He mocked before walking ahead and opening the big doors to the common room.
Shadow simply stood there in annoyance as she watched Raze announce her long awaited presence. As much as she wanted to strangle him first, she knew she had an explanation she needed to say to finally save herself from all the growing questions from her pack.
"Everyone! Shadow is here!" Raze announced followed by a gleeful smirk and walked towards his circle of friends.
Shadow took a deep breath as she decided to walk in. Everyone suddenly became quiet as soon as she walked in. All eyes were on her and the attention she used to love suddenly began to suffocate.
"Come, Shadow!" Their top alpha called who happened to be her own father.
He had no expression on his face but the time of his voice alone tells her that he is nowhere near being happy.
She walked forth and stood in front of her father. Looking him in the eye despite the anxiousness that was covering her like a blanket.
She knew her decision was being questioned. And she didn't want them to think that she did it recklessly. Nor does she have the confidence to take responsibility for it.
"What happened is all in the past. It surprised me to know you missed your chance at winning this one thing you have always aimed for."
"But I understand that you must've been pressured by everything considering the solstice is approaching."
"I have spoken to the school dean as well. And she had agreed to give you and Raze a chance to prove yourselves once again."
"I trust you will not fail me again, Shadow."
Shadow blinks her eyes as her father's words sunk deep into her brain.
He already think that I have failed. What more do I have to lose?
I just wish he can never control me again.
She thought as her expression slowly became confident. She felt something cold surrounded her skin but it didn't last long.
Shadow turned to her pack and looked at them one by one.
That moment made her remember all the memories she had created with them. Her whole life dedicated to a goal they all believed in. Driven by a belief that washed her brain away from the truth.
The pack has always been her sanctuary. But it's no longer the same now that she was given the privilege to look outside the box.
To see both worlds. And what they can achieve together.
