Grace's POV
"So we have at least two hours to sort this out." I told Harley, as we made our way up to my room.
Jake's birthday was coming up soon. I hadn't organised anything yet for him.
I know he wouldn't want a full on surprise party with a heap of people he didn't know, so I wanted to keep it simple. Just Harley, Chase and I, with a few other guys he hangs out with.
My mum was happy to give us some money to use for whatever we ended up organising. All I had to do was get him some presents. Then actually organise his birthday.
"Where is Jake anyway?" Harley asked, turning on my laptop to search for ideas.
I shrugged. "He's out looking for a job apparently."
"A job? When there's exams?" Harley looked shocked.
"That's what I said to him! But he did have a point. Holidays are straight after so he'll have all the time in the world to work."
"Maybe we should talk to his manager, if he gets a job, so that he doesn't work on his birthday party, or birthday for that matter." Harley suggested.
"Good idea." I nodded. Can't have him working on his own birthday. If he gets a job that is.
An hour later of searching and we were getting nowhere. I had not in the slightest clue where we should go. Then depending on where we go is what time, what to eat, what to bring, how to go about getting him there by surprise. If it was a surprise we couldn't do it on his birthday. Depending on where we go, it might not be able to happen on a rainy day, and everyone has to be available to go.
There was so much to sort out.
"What are we going to do?" I whined, flopping onto my bed.
"Well you're the one that is not only his best friend, but his girlfriend, and you've lived with him for like ten years." Harley pointed out.
I sighed. "I know..."
I didn't want to disappoint him though. I really wanted him to have a good time for his birthday.
"So what does he like to do? Where does he like to go? Maybe even what he likes to eat? We can just take him out for lunch and go somewhere nearby after."
Come on, Grace. You have to have some idea.
Jake and I laid side by side. Whenever we wanted to get outside, away from the house, school drama, we'd always come here.
It was just a small park but we still loved it. There was a big lake, a playground where kid's laughs were probably the loudest part about it. There were big trees we could climb, ducks to feed, people walking their dogs, couples going for strolls, and people riding bikes along the paths. It just all in all seemed like the one place everything was somewhat calm.
"If you could go anywhere, where would you go?" I turned onto my side to face Jake.
"My my, Gracie, are you asking me on a date?" Even a 12 year old Jake was still crazy.
