Grace's POV
Tonight was going to be my first date with Jake. To say I was nervous was an understatement.
If I stuff up on this date or humiliate myself, I can't just escape and run home or make up an excuse. Jake would know that I'm lying and he lives with me. What would be even worse? If he broke up with me over it, and I'd have to see him every day.
But I guess he could always move out soon. He'll be eighteen and he's looking for jobs which means he would be able to find his own place. The main reason he stayed with us all this time was because he didn't want to go to a foster home. My mum did when she was younger so she knows exactly what that's like.
So here I was, trying to get ready for a date I knew nothing about.
It wasn't really a surprise I guess. I hadn't asked, and he hasn't told me. All I know is "wear something comfy." But of course, I can't just wear something comfy. It has to be something nice. A date worthy outfit.
"Oh my gosh no." Harley immediately told me when I pulled out a skirt.
I frowned. "Aren't skirts good for dates?"
"Not if you don't know where you're going." She told me like it was obvious. "You might flash someone."
I burst out laughing and Harley couldn't help but crack a grin.
"I don't think I'll end up flashing someone." I told her.
"You totally could though!" Harley tried to argue.
"It's long enough not to though."
It was true. The skirt was a light blue that could almost be thought of as a mint colour (if you were blind) and had lots of flower patterns. It tied up at the back and went down to about my knees. I usually just wore it with a singlet of the same colour so it looked a bit like a dress.
"Exactly. It's too long." Harley tried to tell me. "Plus, it's winter. You would have nothing that matches to cover you up."
I sighed. Well now she has a point.
But then, Harley had to go on.
"And we don't want you to look like a nun. You need to look sexy for Jake, not cute." She rolled her eyes.
Sometimes you wish there was an off button for some people. Harley was one of those people. Not that I would use that button now, there's just a lot of times where she starts to say things that really aren't necessary.
It gets us into trouble a lot.
"Okay, how about this?" Harley pulled out a black, long sleeved, thin-ish cotton jumper from my closet. (A/N: Just realised some of you may not know what a jumper is... it's kind of like a sweater I think.)
"With what?" I asked her. It seemed a bit plain for what Harley would usually pick out for me.
"Just some black stockings and your boots." She shrugged. "Oh! And a necklace. We have to glam it up a bit." She grinned.
