Grace’s POV
I stared at the playground before me in amusement. None of us had ever been here together for years. It wasn’t very crowded which was the way I liked it. There were also no little kids to have to wait for as they were acting like rascals not letting us have a go on anything. It sounds mean, I know. Sometimes though, those kids can be downright evil. Last time we were only here though because a boy in our fifth grade chased after a stray dog and everyone followed to watch. He wasn’t someone who got teased or who was popular, everyone just wanted to watch as he cried his heart out for the love of animals. It was hilarious.
The sun shone through the leaves of the surrounding trees and out of the corner of my eye, I saw Chase grinning like an idiot. You could see his dimples and that just made me want to poke his cheek. I turned around slowly, taking up all there was to the park. A swing set, flying fox, slide, climbing net, and a few things that I have no idea what the name could possibly be. There were paths for bikes, and trees that could be climbed.
I watched Chase run after Harley to the swings. They were both pretty fast runners as they went for the cross country team every year. She was giggling and I could see the gleam in her eyes when she looked back to see how fast Chase was catching up to her. They would be so cute together. When I get home I was definitely making shipping names.
“You alright Grace?” A voice took me out of my thoughts.
“Yeah.” I turned around to see Jake staring down at me, a small smile on his face.
“I haven’t been here in ages.”
“That makes two of us.” He chuckled at my reply before grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the lake.
The water wasn’t clear but it did have a nice gleam to it from the sun. Just thinking about the sun made me realise how hot it actually was though. I was glad we had brought our swimmers in Chase’s car. We had packed some towels, swimmers, and a picnic basket that was hopefully actually filled with food and drinks.
“CHASE WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU DOING UP THERE?” I yelled up to him.
Chase was undoubtedly, in a tree. Why he was in the tree makes no sense to me because he was hanging from its highest branch upside down. As the tree branch didn’t look very supporting and seeing Chase wasn’t one to go easy on the food intake, what was going to happen next was expected.
In the highest possible way
Chase fell out of the tree gracefully, smacking into every single branch underneath him on the way down with a girl screech and landed on his ass. It was quite a sight, let me tell you that. I was about to ask him if he was okay until he opened his mouth.
“I looked like a motherfreaking sloth right?” I face palmed at his question. There goes my concern for him.
“You could have died!” Harley screeched. “Or worse, you could have landed on me and flattened me to death!”
“Oh calm down Harley. I’m sure you’re beautiful face could have survived.” Chase waved his hand dismissively.
Jake and I’s eyes widened and Harley’s mouth fell open in shock. Chase looked around at all of us confused until he realised what he had said to her and tried to correct himself. Failing miserably.
“I uh meant that you uh... your face is always beautiful… wait no, well it is but I uh...” His face went as red as a tomato. Jake and I smirked at each other and high fived. We’d been betting on those two liking each other for a while now. This was definitely the golden ticket to the chocolate factory.
