Grace's POV
Today was the big day. The biggest day yet. You know what day it is? It's Tuesday.
I know what you're thinking. 'Grace why the hey hey are you happy that it's Tuesday?' Well let me tell you that today I find out how my entry went. If you don't remember what entry then you suck because this meant a lot to me.
It was the day Jake and I went to the lake and I got that real good picture of Jake at the waterfall. This morning, my teacher would put the results up on this notice board. It wasn't the grandest of awards. After all, it wasn't an Australian or international competition. Just a mini class competition. Our teacher always gave us a $20 voucher for an ice cream parlour though... and I do love ice cream.
So obviously, getting ice cream was the best reason for me to be running into the school halls this morning.
Food is the only reason I will ever run. Except if it's something like broccoli... I will eat it. But I don't run for broccoli.
There weren't that many people around the notice board when I came sprinting to it. However, one person did stand out to me, and that was Chris. I saw him smile at my teacher as he stuck up the announcement.
I started walking, more like skipping, over to where my cute boyfriend was but faltered a bit as I saw him frown. Then his frown turned into his jaw clenching.
Starting to think I probably didn't win, I cautiously walked over to Chris.
"What is this?" He spat out at me.
"Uh, well I haven't seen it yet." I smiled sheepishly.
"Tell me why that loser is in your picture." He demanded.
"What?"
"That friend of yours is in your picture."
"Oh my gosh I won." I squealed. Then paused, realising Chris wasn't happy about me winning. "Why aren't you happy for me?" I frowned.
"I could've been in your picture but instead you take that good for nothing prick and do your competition with him?"
"Woah Chris..." I was not fighting with him again. "He was just there. I didn't know he'd be in my picture."
Chris snorted and crossed his arms.
"Is that why you were all over him yesterday?" He asked.
"What?" Oh gosh... he knew I did that on purpose. "He's just a friend."
"Doesn't seem that way."
"Look, I just wanted to see if you still cared about me or not and by the looks of it you do. So forget Jake, he doesn't mean as much to me as you do. I want you Chris, not him." I explained.
I started freaking out when he didn't respond. Did he not want me back anymore? The way he was acting made it seem like he did. Maybe he thought I cheated on him.
"You want me?" Chris looked me in the eyes.
"Just you." I whispered.
He leaned down and gave me quick kiss before smiling. I couldn't help but smile back. That always seemed to be the way but as I said, I couldn't help it. Smiles were contagious. Like yawning.
"Nothing hey?" I heard a voice from behind me.
I turned around to see Jake standing there, his hands shaking fists and eyes red. He had heard everything. He knew what I did to him. I knew he didn't like me but to actually use someone to get attention was wrong. I shouldn't have done that. Not to Jake.
"What Jake..." I trailed off.
"Don't." He choked out. "I thought you were over that bastard. I thought you realised who was actually here for you. I was here for you. Always."
I looked down at the ground, ashamed of myself. He was here for me. Not until he actually came into my life but ever since he would always help me out. Helped me figure out my homework, let me talk to him about my nightmares in the middle of the night, baked me cookies, took me out so I could go places for my photography and ice cream.
I needed him here.
"I know." I told him.
"God dammit Gracie. He's using you!" He shouted. "When we fought that time it's because he was betting with his friends when he could get you into bed with him." Jake pointed at Chris. "He's an absolute asshole and you deserve better."
"He didn't use me Jake." I told him, stepping back towards Chris.
"Why do you think he made advances on you? Because he didn't care."
"I do care." Chris yelled at Jake.
Oh gosh. Chris don't get involved.
"No you don't. Gracie doesn't need you. She needs someone better."
"Like who? You?" Chris laughed humourlessly.
I just groaned and covered my face with my hands. Of course not like Jake.
"Yeah actually." Jake stepped forward, towards Chris.
"Why don't you prove it?" Chris challenged.
That's when Jake swung a punch straight at Chris' nose.

"I can't believe you hit him." I scolded Jake. "That was unnecessary."
He just shrugged. "Asshole deserved it."
I took the cloth away from his jaw where Chris had hit him back and sighed.
"He really was using me?" I asked for probably the millionth time.
"I wouldn't lie to you about this." Jake confirmed, pulling me in for a hug.
After everything Jake had said about him always being there for me, I realised that maybe this time I should be here for Jake instead. I hadn't ended things off with Chris yet but I'd have to. Especially if he did attempt to use me. Well he did technically.
Which makes everything worse. No one actually cared about me more than a friend now and my childhood fear would keep on going. That I'd never get a boyfriend. It was sad to think like that, but I couldn't live with friends my whole life. They'd want to move in with their wives and husbands and I'd just come home to no one. Not even a cat or dog probably because they'd run away from me.
"Thank you." I hugged Jake tighter.
"For what?" He asked.
"For not giving up on me."
"Wouldn't dream of it Gracie." He smiled.
I leaned up and kissed his cheek lightly, realising I had the best plan in history. It was unlike me because I'd never done anything like this but so like me because I'd always thought of doing something like it.
"I have an idea." I whispered.
"What..?"
"Let's get some revenge." I grinned.
