The Medic

One apology

After my shower I went to the large group kitchen.
I grabbed myself something to eat and sat down on a table on one of the windows.

I was deep in my thoughts.

Why had I lost control like that?
That's why I didn't wanted back into active duty.
I wasn't made for this.

I looked up as someone sat down next to me.
I looked up and saw a smiling Gaz.
I was about to smile as Soap sat down in front of me.
I sighed.

„Oh come on. I'm not that bad"

he snickered.

„Yeah keep telling that to yourself"

I muttered.
He kicked my feet so I looked back up.

„Come on I'm sorry"

I stared at him.
Did he just say sorry?

„Are you on drugs? Gaz did you hit him?"

„No I didn't. He isnt that bad. Just a bit immature"

„Yeah. Oh wait ey!"

I had to laugh about Soaps pouting face.

„Ah see she can laugh"

„Well yes I can. You guys just never gave me a reason to"

I said rolling my eyes.
Soap grinned and kicked my feet again.

„Could you stop?"

„No I want your attention"

„Ugh Soap really not now"

„You don't even know what I want to say?"

„Let me guess. How absolutely hot my ass looks in these cargos? Well yes I know"

I huffed.

„Well yes you're absolutely right. And god I love a woman with confidence. But that's not it. I really want to apologise."

I eyed him up and down.

„What cruel joke is this now?"

„No joke. We're a team now.
And we have to work together.
And even though I never said it I really appreciate your work. And this morning you showed us that you're not only a good medic.
I respect that.
So please don't take everything I say so serious.
You just look too cute when you're angry"

„You almost got me Soap. The last one was unnecessary"

I raised my eyebrows.
His face shifted into some kind of sadness and desperation.

„I'm kidding. Thank you for the apology. But I will still beat your ass if you annoy me"

„Oh I sure hope so"

he winked.
I laughed loud and nudged Gaz.

„Was this your idea?"

„Nope. All his own idea.
He asked me to come with him because he was scared. He wanted a witness in case you would kill him"

„Ohh you're not as stupid as I thought Soap"

I laughed.

We talked a bit until my mood dropped again.
Ghost and König joined us.
They ignored me like I wasn't even there.
But I was glad.
I was so glad that at least Soap had came to his senses.
I scanned them deep in my thoughts.

„What are you looking at Gibson?"

Ghost spat out.
I frowned deep.

„Don't call me that. No one does that."

I said dry.

„Doesn't answer my question"

„I was thinking about how you two eat and drink. I have never seen you without masks around base"

I slightly tilted my head and scrunched my nose thinking.
A deep amused chuckle escaped Ghosts lungs.

„We take them off. Despite all the rumours we don't care who sees our faces. Just not all the time"

„Huh. Interesting"

I muttered.
I got up and packed my dishes.

„Where are you going?"

Soap pouted.

„I'm done. And I want to keep my food inside me and not vomit when I have to look at these two"

I smiled sweet and left.
I looked back and winked at the hysterical laughing Soap and the clearly confused and annoyed Ghost and König.

This was very new to them.
Usually I only fired back when they started.

But why not start myself?
Just to show them how I could be.
This day wasn't even as bad as I had thought.

I bought back my dishes.
I walked around base a little lost.
What was I supposed to do?
I didn't knew how to spend all this time.
In the medic bay was always something to do.

I was outside watching the k9 train as I saw the four others come out.

„Ey Mel! Wanna join the shooting training?"

Soap yelled over.
I thought for a second.
I wasn't the best at shooting but why not.

„Give me a minute I'm coming after"

I waved and went to get my bag.

I was kind of glad that Soap actually seemed to try to integrate me in their training.

I got my bag and walked to the shooting range.
It wasn't very full but I saw them standing there and arguing.
I approached them.

„What's wrong?"

„They're arguing again.
They want line 15 but there are others.
They asked them to move but now they will wait extra long"

Gaz rolled his eyes.

„Let me guess. The asking was not so nice?"

I grinned.

„Then take another line"

I huffed.

„We're always on 15"

König muttered.

„You're so spoiled really. Oh my god"

„I'm gonna make them leave"

Ghost spat and was about to head towards the other group.

„The hell you will! God you guys can't solve everything with violence.
This is why I always have to help you"

„No one even wants you here"

König spat back.

„No? Well you're stuck with me.
I don't like it either.
But let me show you how to do something like that"

I grinned sweet and shoved my back into his hands.
He just looked at me confused.
