Why does Carter become so timid and rigid in front of his brother?

This is the only question that has been bugging me since the moment I saw them together even for a brief second in the morning.

I wore the new blue dress I bought the other day. I curl my hair, do the make-up, click pictures, and immediately send them to our family group like I was asked to.

I wear a woolen sweater over the dress because fashion comes after preventing cold.

I don't want to disturb anyone here by falling sick.

I walk out of my room and call Jason almost immediately.

"Hey doc"

He says from the other side.

"Where are you? Most importantly where am I supposed to go?"

I ask casually the way I always speak to him.

"You are in the 2nd bungalow right?"

He asks from the other side.

"No, I'm not. Carter talked to Nate about shifting my things to a third-floor room of the main house in the morning"

I say awkwardly.

"He did?"

He says slyly.

"Come get me already"

I nag.

"Okay fine. I am already on my way but come again, Vivian talked to Nate?... for the room thing?"

He asks again.

"Yes, I suppose. I stood outside of the room though"

I say leaning against the wall from the prolonged standing.

"And they did not shout?"

He asks curiously.

"Why? They always do?"

I ask and almost immediately see him approaching with a grin so I automatically cut the call.

"They apparently do these days"

He is breathing heavily which suggests he ran up the stairs.

"Interesting"

I keep a normal face.

My sole plan for tonight is to keep a straight face and try to gather as much information as possible. I'll email Dr. Zain accordingly later.

"This whole family is"

He says making our way back.

"Yet you agreed to be a manager after your dad retires?"

I ask.

"I must. Contract stuff"

He says like a deadpan.

"Contract again?"

I laugh.

"You know, someday they will say they stay in a house together for a contract as well"

He laughs and I join in.

We walk down the stairs to a lightened room on the ground floor.

For the first time since I came here, it feels warm with people and laughter.

"It is going to be an awkward night for sure"

I whisper seeing so many people scattered in shorter groups all around the hall.
