Ask Me Again

Oliver and Sara were walking back from getting Hot Pot, enjoying the winter day. Snow was falling all around them and Hot Pot was perfect for the weather. Sara's and Oliver's faces were red from both the cold and proximity of being close to one another (but of course neither one of them realized that just yet).

They decided to take the subway back since they were too far to walk and headed towards the stairs of the subway. Unfortunately, so is everyone else since the baseball stadium just let out.

"Stay close, you know how it gets after the baseball games," Oliver says and Sara nods. It's very overwhelming but Sara has done this before with Patrick so this shouldn't be a big-

Where's Oliver?

Sara frantically looked as people began to crowd the station. Excited children here, gruff guys there, but no sweet and kind Subway boy. Sara feels a gentle grab on her hand and gasps but sighs in relief when it is Oliver.

"Sara, hold my hand. It's going to get worse. I want to get out here too."

Sara nods frantically and they interlock hands, weaving through the craziness of the subway. People seem extra crazy since it's cold. Oliver leads Sara through, occasionally checking to make sure his hand is still with hers, and turning away blushing when he realizes it is still fine.

He just had to make sure it didn't get mixed up with one of the gruff men. Gruff men are scary, and not Sara Lin. Sara Lin is definitely different from a gruff man.

Oliver and Sara finally make it to an area where they can breath and both catch their breath on a bench.

"Thanks Oliver. If you didn't find me, I would have not known what the plan was going to go from there." Sara says, still out of breath looking at him.

"I was always going to find you. I'd never let anything happen to you." Oliver says, glancing casually back at Sara to see a small smile of appreciation from Sara. Oliver has a tough shell, but she knows that deep down, he is one of the most caring people in the world. He just expresses it differently due to his past.

Sara looks around and laughs when she realizes something.

This is the same area where it happened.

The same area where she had the bet with her friends.

She looks to her right, and while a kid and his mom was there now, she can imagine Patrick and Vicky rooting her on for her 18th birthday that day. It was way less crowded and all Sara saw then was Oliver.

It's funny how even though it is way more packed now, he is still the only thing she sees (now that she can catch her breath of course).

"You realized it too right?" Oliver said looking at her, smiling a bit while Sara nodded.

"This is how you got your nickname Subwayboy!" Sara says, pulling his cheek a bit.

"Sometimes, I wonder about that night" Oliver thinks outloud and Sara looks at him. "I wonder what would have happened if..." Oliver trails off but looks ahead. Sara frowns a bit.

"if you...what Oliver?" Sara says confused. She's fully turned to him now, one eyebrow up.

"if...I would have...said yes. Where would we be now?" Oliver noted. He sighs and looks back at Sara, eyebrows up when realizing how much of her attention he had. He just felt like one person but maybe to Sara, he's one person that matters.

Oliver would never think much of it. He just wanted to mean something to her, but to come out and ask that? No way. He couldn't. He shouldn't....right?

"I know you had a lot going on that night and of course you'd say no! I was just a random silly girl. We were strangers. It didn't make sense then." Sara said, shrugging.

It got quiet for a beat until Oliver said

"We're not strangers anymore though."

Oliver gulped and stared at Sara. Sara felt her heart racing at him saying that. What does that mean? Of course, we're not. We're close. We're great. We're...Sara and Oliver. It means something different now.

Oliver decided to continue "If someone had shown me the future and told me how much you would have meant to me, I would have had a different answer at that moment".

"Now that you do know...What do you think you should do?" Sara asked quietly. Sara and Oliver were now fully staring at each other. The music from the steel drum, people talking about the game, and the subway on the other side letting people off seemed to disappear and go quiet.

This was their moment.

"I think...You should ask me again. Ask me what you asked me that night Sara Lin." Oliver said. Sara gasps, eyes widening in shock. Oliver glances ever so slightly at Sara's lips. Not long enough for it to be obvious, but not quick enough to be missed.

Does he want me to ask what I think he does?

"Can I...kiss you?"  Sara said, and Oliver smiles.

"Yes"

Sara and Oliver lean in and it is everything they could have hoped for. It was slow yet full of emotions. It was sweet and just right. It was...everything. Oliver gently cups her face while Sara gently wraps her hand around her wrist.

Sara Lin and Oliver Yang.

They finally got this one right.
