The one where one emoji makes a big difference
Sara and Oliver have been hanging out for a while now and both have began to notice that feelings are growing. It all started when Sara Lin needed a tutor and who better than the smartest guy she knows?
As time went on, it went from strictly business to "Hey, I'm getting ice cream, wanna join me?" to "Let's walk home together".
Neither one of them saw it coming, but when siblings/cousins begin to notice things you don't, well...that makes a big difference.
After they got home from a hangout, Sara Lin was so content and happy from her outing with Oliver that her fingers went faster than her mind could process. Her mind wondered if he felt the same way she did.
Oliver's phone went off and his eyebrows raised in surprise to see it was from Sara Lin. They didn't text each other besides cat videos or checking in from tutoring. Oliver didn't mind. Ever since Joe noticed how happy he was hanging from Sara Lin, he began to consider for a split second if a crush wasn't a bad thing to want.
From Sara Lin :P
Today was fun Oliver. See you tomorrow! ❤️
Oliver quietly gasped as he noticed the heart at the end of the message.
A heart?
That's not what she would usually put...unless she felt the same way?
Oliver began pacing in his room until he heard a knock and Joe came in from finishing his shift at Kiki's.
"Are you going to cause a draft Oliver?" Joe joked and Oliver stopped. He finally realized the bottoms of his feet felt hot from pacing for so long.
"You're right. I'm going to sleep" Oliver mumbled and before Joe could get any details, Oliver quickly shuffled into bed, covers going over his head to not risk any questions.
The next day, Sara Lin woke up a bit confused. She remembered texting Oliver but he usually responded. Did she cross a line? She woke up and her eyes widened at the heart at the end of the message. She face palmed herself as she let out a groan.
What was she thinking?!
She got ready with a pit in her stomach. No wonder Oliver didn't respond. When she went to walk with Joe and Oliver, Joe told her that Oliver had to go in early for a project but that they could walk together. Sara smiled softly but knew that it must have been from the text message and not this magical project that appeared.
As she walked with Joe, Joe noticed Sara had something on her mind but decided not to say anything. He wondered if this had something to do with the way Oliver was acting last night since both seem to be acting odd. When they got to school, they parted ways and carried on as normal throughout the day.
When Sara got home, Sara was wondering if she should message again, and apologize for sending the message with the heart. After all, it must have been too much and maybe she and Oliver wasn't on the same page as she thought.
Before she could think too long, she heard a knock at the door and went to get it since her dad was out at work. She looked through the peephole and her heart dropped.
It's Oliver.
She quickly fixed her hair before opening the door, seeing Oliver smile when he saw her.
"Hey," he said, nervous and quickly fixing his hair.
"Hey," Sara responded, smiling small.
"Can I come in?" He asked and Sara nodded to let him in. They went to her room and sat on her bed. As the room filled with silence, neither one could take it anymore.
"Sara. I-"
"Oliver,-"
Both began to laugh and Oliver told Sara to go first.
"Hey, I'm so sorry if the heart was too much. I just was typing too fast and my mind didn't read it and I got so nervous and then I didn't see you today and I think Joe noticed and-"
"Sara, take a breath. It's okay." Oliver laughed and Sara nodded, took a breath and waited for him to continue.
"Sara, I'll admit, I saw it and I did get nervous. It made me ask a lot of questions but then I realized, it shouldn't be a surprise or anything. I think we've...been getting closer. Don't you?" Oliver mentioned and Sara gulped, eyebrows raising in surprise.
"Yeah, I...I agree. I don't think my feelings are...student to tutor feelings if that makes sense" Sara says, closing her eyes tightly. She didn't know how this was going to go and didn't even want to see Oliver's face for his reaction.
"I...don't think mine are either. I really like you Sara Lin and I want you to know that." Oliver said, smiling big and noticing how close their hands are. He gently places his hand on top of hers and she opens her eyes in surprise, noticing the weight change from the simple action.
Sara smiled big, interlocking their hands. They both breath a sigh of relief as they realize the feelings are mutual. As the both lay back on the bed talking, both knew that this was something worth exploring and all it took was a heart emoji to realize it
