Sara came into tutoring laughing at a cat video Patrick sent her. It was this car owner trying to bathe a cat and the cat was not appreciating it.
"What's so funny??" Oliver asked with one eyebrow raised.
"You laugh at things? I didn't know you did anything other than snap at me for missing math problems and doing math. You do other things, Oliver Yang?" Sara quipped and Oliver groaned. He knows he isn't the most approachable but he hoped Sara truly saw him differently than a mean math tutor.
"Ha ha ha, very funny. Let's go. Chapter 13." Oliver responded and she playfully rolled her eyes. She knew he did more than that but he truly does not know how to loosen up. They learned about parabolas and functions until Sara's brain literally could not function and then Sara's phone alarm went off.
"Well, It's 4:00 subs. Let's start walking before it gets too dark. I'll work on it at home." Sara smiled and Oliver raised an eyebrow, mumbling about how she always said that yet the paper was blank every time they came back for tutoring.
As they walked together, they began noticing all the different animals people had that day. A guy was walking a lizard, a woman was cooing at her fish, and they both saw the fanciest poodle they'd ever seen. Sara noted to Oliver how that pet convention was in town and explained how she saw it on TV while Oliver nodded.
When she looked to the left, she squealed, hurting Oliver's ears in the process.
"Oliver look! The pet shop got new puppies. We HAVE to go in. They are so cute!" Sara exclaims as she grabs Oliver's hand and drags it into the store. Oliver groaned but followed semi-reluctantly in. What is up with people and animals and why do they need to coexist? Oliver thought they were weird-looking and germy....and he didn't like the way a fish had one eye on each side of its head.
"Oliver, I asked you which kitten you wanted to hold. The employee is waiting for your choice" Sara noted, and Oliver got out of his head. While he didn't want to hold one, Sara grabbed the cute puppy and had immediate heart eyes.
She gave him mini kisses and cuddles while the puppy licked back and Oliver melted into this moment.
"I like her happiness. She's very...cute," Oliver thought, face getting red at the thought. Sara looked up to see Oliver's blushing face and thought that he needed to just take it one step at a time. She asked him to come pet the puppy and Oliver did slowly, the puppy being happy to have so much attention. Eventually, they explored the whole shop. Oliver noted how an animal looked freaky while Sara explained why they were cool to her.
They got to the cats and Sara decided to hold one. She held the golden-looking cat, its soft fur and busy tail making her smile. She looked at the cat and then back at Oliver and looked at them back and forth for a minute while giggling. Her face eventually turned red from laughing.
"What's so funny Sara Lin?" Oliver asked.
"Look, It's you!" She said laughing and smiling. Oliver raised an eyebrow while peering at the cat. He noticed it did indeed have the same kinda color as his hair but that was about it.
"You're both a bit grumpy. Yes, you two are!" Sara cooed at the cat and Oliver rolled his eyes playfully.
As they washed their hands after, they thanked the kind employee taking them around.
"Oh, no problem! I hope you two come back and get a pet together. You're an adorable couple. An opposites attract vibe. I get it. My hubby and I are the same way!" She smiles and they both turn red.
"Oh, we're not-"
"He's just a-"
They both sputtered out but the employee smirked and left. She knew what she was doing.
Once they left, they talked about all the different animals and Oliver doesn't think the worst of them now. Once they got back to their place, Sara was about to say goodbye to Oliver when he said "wait" and grabbed her hand.
"Thanks for...showing me the pet shop. I had more fun than you might think." Oliver said blushing and Sara smiled.
"Anytime subs. Let's do something else fun next week. Do you like Hotpot?" She asked and Oliver nodded, feeling his voice might fail him.
"Great! Let's go there after tutoring on Tuesday. I love Hotpot!" She smiled, letting go of his hand and grabbing her door handle.
"Great. It's a date" Oliver noted and then immediately had both of them turn red.
"It's a...date Oli?" Sara's voice softened and Oliver was looking away, too afraid of what might happen next and Sara grabbed his hand.
"I can't wait. See you tomorrow." She smiled.
And when the pet shop employee saw Sara and Oliver holding hands a week later, she squealed, almost scaring a lady and her parrot.
"Nailed it." She mumbled. She loved a good ship.
AN: So cute. Love to see it. Leave any suggestions you have :)
