When I was a little girl, the other boys, and girls, that I used to play from the village next to mine, would tell tales of monsters that would come out during full moon nights.

I never knew what or who they spoke of as in my village, there was no such monsters spoken about.

The Mikaelson siblings would tell me tales about how they have to hide in caves and keep their doors locked tight during the full moon nights. They would huddle together, their wide eyes filled with fear, as they described the sinister creatures that prowled the darkness.

The second eldest, Elijah, would speak with a seriousness that sent shivers down my spine, describing how these monsters possessed an insatiable hunger for human flesh. He spoke of their razor-sharp claws, their elongated fangs, and the haunting screeches that echoed through the night.

Niklaus, the middle sibling, would chime in with tales of their glowing yellow eyes that pierced through the darkness, as if they could see straight into your soul.

Finn wouldn't say anything but smile at his siblings tales while Kol and Rebekah sat next to me filled with fear over the stories.

As a curious and adventurous child, these stories both terrified and intrigued me. I couldn't help but wonder if there was any truth behind their terrifying tales.

So, one day when I was ten, I decided to investigate these so-called monsters.

"I really don't think you should be doing this, Astrid." Rebekah says to me in a hushed tone as I pack herbs and food into a satchel.

I am rather good at making potions quickly when in need as I am able ready to remember ingredients off the top of my mind easily.

My mother was a witch.

She died when I was very young. But she had been close to the witch from the other village, Rebekah's mother, Esther.

Once my magic had started to show, she had taken me in mostly and taught me how to do magic alongside her youngest son, Kol.
