We walked along the path for a while until we reached a secluded area of the beach. I took a beach blanket out of the bag I was carrying and set it down on the sand.
"So my surprise is a romantic beach date?" He asked.
"Is that too cliche?" I asked.
"No..... Maybe, but it's what I would've done." He chuckled. I took out the food from the bottom of the basket I've been carrying and set it on the blanket. There was cold spaghetti, salad, yoghurt, grapes, fruit juice and cheese and crackers.
"This is an interesting meal you've got here." Ross said settling down on the blanket.
"It's hard to have a nice hot meal on a picnic." I defended. He just laughed and grabbed my hand.
"It looks good anyway. Wanna eat?" I just nodded and grabbed the spaghetti and some plastic plates to serve it on. Ross opened the salad on put a bit on both plates as well. While we were eating there was a nice comfortable silence. That was until Ross threw grapes at me. I sat there with a shocked look and my mouth hanging open. He took the opportunity and threw another grape at me, aiming for my mouth. When it successfully landed in my mouth we both cheered and laughed like idiots.
"I was thinking of going pro," Ross told me.
"At shooting food into mouths?" I cheekily asked. He just smiled and shook his head as he took another mouthful of spaghetti. We'd finished off the spaghetti and salad and had moved onto 'dessert'. We both ate the yoghurt from the tub and shared a spoon. When I was younger I remember flinging yoghurt at Ben and getting it all through his hair, so I wanted to do that to Ross too. I took the spoon from him and scooped a heap of yoghurt from the tub before I flung it at him. He had the same look I had on my face just minutes earlier. He also had a cheeky gleam in his eyes and I could tell he was about to get up and try to tackle me to the ground and tickle me or something. I got up and quickly took my dress off, running for the water. As soon as my legs were submerged I dived under and swam until I ran out of breath. I popped my head up from the water and saw Ross near the shore, trying to see me. I kept my eyes above the water but everything else was covered. He was looking around at the horizon, trying to find me when he stopped. His gaze in my direction. I knew he saw me. I didn't bother trying to go under and hide again, I just stayed where I was waiting for him to come to me. He dove under and freestyled all the way out to me.
It was pretty deep where I was, and I was getting a little tired of keeping myself afloat. He still had a smirk on his face but he didn't have that look in his eye anymore. Now it had changed into something else that I'd seen a hundred times before. Love.
He wrapped his arms around me and helped me stay up above the water.
"That was a ballsy thing to do Miss Garnett." He referred to the yoghurt thing.
"Haha, sorry. I just really wanted to do that. You looked soo funny with the yoghurt in your hair." I pulled my hand from the water and tangled them into his hair.
"Has it all washed out now?" He asked.
"Yeah. All gone." I 'booped' his nose and we both giggled.
"I love you." He told me once we'd calmed down. I took my gaze from his hair and looked straight into his eyes.
"I love you too." I moved in, closing the gap between us. He leaned in also until our lips met in a wet, passionate kiss. We pulled back and put our foreheads together, just looking into each other's eyes.
"This is even more cliche," I said, breaking the silence.
"What? Professing our love for each other and making out in the ocean?" His mouth upturned into a giant grin.
"Yeah. That." I laughed."C'mon then. Let's go dry off and sit on the beach." He suggested. I nodded and we swam back to the shore. I beat him back by accident, I just like swimming. As soon as we exited the water, a chill went through me. Ross came up behind me and started running towards the picnic. I followed walking as fast as I could, I was a little too cold to run. He looked through one of the bags, took two towels out and ran back towards me. He draped the smaller of the towels around me as well as the bigger one around the both of us. To keep the towel up, his arm was around my shoulder as we walked. We sat back down on he blanket and I snuggled up against his chest. The sun was starting to set and we were watching it silently. Just enjoying each other's company in this moment.
Just after the sun had gone down I grabbed my sweater, my trackies (sweatpants) and another large jacket. We still had the towels around us so that we were cuddled up close together.
"This was a great surprise, Kat. Thank you for the amazing birthday." he kissed my cheek and I blushed.
"N'en parle pas," I said.
"Huh?"
"It means 'don't mention it' in French."
"Oh. Well then, vous avez de tres beaux yeux."
"Your accent is so cute." I gushed.
"Is that not how you say it?"
"It's close."
"Then show me." He demanded.
"Vous avez de tres beaux yeux. Ooo c'est tres tres beaux. Monte la Tour Eiffel... and I can't translate the rest, heh." His face was precious. I waved my hand in front of his face.
"You can speak French?" He asked, gobsmacked.
"Oui, un petit peu."
"And that means.....?"
"Yes, a little bit. I'm not fluent, but I can speak and read it a little bit."
"I honestly didn't know that about you." I smiled at him.
"Vraiment? Really?" I asked.
"Really. How long have you been able to speak it?"
"I've been learning it since grade 8, so...... 4 years."
"That's so cool. And romantic," he pecked my lips.
"Merck beaucoup mon petit ami," I kissed him back.We made out for a few minutes until he pulled away quickly as if he'd realised something.
"What's wrong?" I asked worried.
"You ate food?"
"And......?" I urged.
"Aaannd...... you didn't throw up?" I realised what he was saying now.
"Huh? Maybe since its been so long it wasn't that bad this time? I don't know."
"You sure?"
"Yes, Ross. I'm sure," I was agitated again.
"Ok. Ok. I just didn't want rule out any other possibility." He put his hands up in surrender.
"Rule 'em out. Because it was just the food thing. Ok?" I asked more sweetly to try and get him to drop the subject.
"Okie dokie," he said happier.
"I like you. You say okie dokie," I laughed my ass off, while Ross just sat there and looked at me like I was an idiot.
"Don't worry. Ell would get it." I told him once I'd calmed down.
"TV show?" He asked.
"TV show," I clarified. It'd been an hour and we'd just sat on the blanket and ate the rest of the food, made jokes and cuddled with the occasional kiss. It was nice to just spend the time alone with him. I know we spend 'alone time' together but this was much more romantic. Damn it! He's rubbing off on me. Haha.
"Kat I love you," Ross said out of the blue. Everything had been quiet for a little while and he just suddenly blurted it out.
"I know," I said to him.
"I know you know, but I wanna show you." He sat up on his knees. I was curious as to what he was about to do.
"You are an amazing person Kat, and I'm so glad I met you, or really saw you in the crowd at our concert." I giggled at the memory.
"I love you with all my heart and I want to spend the rest of my life with you......"
