Fake Date Plan

"So what should I do then?" Rydel asked me once we were alone in the hotel room.
"About El?" I asked her.
"Yeah, you got me to admit I liked him. Thank you very much by the way," she said that in a very sarcastic tone while rolling her eyes at me. "So now I feel like I need to do something about it. Tell him, make a move, find out if he likes me back. Something."
I thought about what she said for a moment.
"I have an idea to find out if he likes you. I mean I have an inkling that he does but if I can pull off my plan I will know for sure."
"What's the plan?" Her face lit up like a Christmas tree.
"I go on a date with El."

Her face dropped. "Really?! That's your plan? Go on a date with him. Did I not just 20 minutes ago confess my love for him and now you're gonna go on a date with him!! Uuh! What a friend you are!!"
"Rydel calm down! That's not what I'm thinking! I know that him and I aren't meant to be together, and I would make sure of that."
"So you would tank the date on purpose?" She had this really confused look on her face, it was cute.
"Yeah. While also talking you up to him," I winked
"Hahahaha. Ok, I like this. Sorry I blew up like that. you got me to admit something I'd never thought I'd say, so when I thought you were going to stab me in the back I was kinda upset."
"It's cool Delly, I understand. A similar thing happened to me a few years ago. I totally understand. But just know that I would never do that to you, you're my friend."
"Not just you're friend, I think we're best friends."
"Holy shit! I'm best friends with Rydel Lynch!! Aaaahhhh!!"

"Hahaha. Calm down girl. C'mon we gotta get ready to go out and get some lunch."
"Sorry, fangirl moment haha. Ok give me a minute to freshen up."
"Cool. Hey what happened a few years ago? You said something similar actually happened to you, what was it?"
I stopped walking to the bathroom and turned back to Rydel.
"In grade 10 I had this friend, Hannah. Her, Suzie and I had been best friends since grade 3. Anyway, in grade 10, I had a crush on this guy, Mike. When I told Hannah about it she said she had an idea on how to get me and him together. So I let her do whatever she had planned, and that afternoon, after school, I saw her and Mike making out at the bus stop. She saw me and stopped kissing him. She stared at me and this grin grew on her face. I ran away crying and Suzie and I never spoke to her again."

That's the first time I ever told anyone that story. I know it's not some huge life altering, depressing thing that happened, but it did hurt me and I never wanted to bring it up again. But something about Rydel and the Lynches (and Ratliff), made me feel comfortable in revealing these things.

"Oh, Kat. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I accused you of doing that. I was sorry before but now I feel even worse" she hugged me
"It's ok Rydel. It was two years ago. I'm over it. It just means that I value my friends and I know how much doing something like that to them can hurt."
