The party's been going on for about two hours now and I've had a few drinks. I'm not drunk, but I'm definitely tipsy. Rocky and Ratliff have been running around with their shirts off and screaming like maniacs for the past half hour. It's been pretty entertaining. Lucy joined in with them at first but then she got tired and sat down with Del and some of their family. Ross was off somewhere with some old friends of theirs. Riker and Emily disappeared into the house a few minutes ago, they were hand in hand and were trying not to be seen sneaking in. It was cute to see that, they thought they were doing a good job. I'm not sure where Maya had gotten to, last time I saw her she was swimming in the pool with Ry before he hopped out and joined me on the deck chair.
"So how's the party so far?" Ryland asked me.
"It's pretty good. Everyone's so nice and welcoming." I said with a giant smile. "But I'm a little hungry," I confessed.
"I think there's some salad and stuff out. Come on let's go have a look," We got up and walked through the crowd towards some tables with food on them. There was some salad along with cheese, crackers and dip, cold meets, celery and carrot sticks and other snack type foods. I grabbed a plate and put some stuff on it and headed back to my seat on he deck chair. I thought Ry was right behind me but he didn't sit back down with me. He must've found Maya or something.I sat there and ate my food in silence. I get a bit funny in crowds of people that I don't know, so I'm just sitting out of the way on my own and watching them.
I was just about done with my food when someone put their hands over my eyes. It honestly could've been anyone, so I put my hands up to theirs to try and see if I could tell. They were long masculine fingers so it could've been any of the guys.
"I have no clue," I said as my hands fell back into my lap. I heard a giggle before the hands disappeared and Riker joined me on the chair.
"How're you going?" He asked.
"I'm better now that I got some food." I laughed.
"Don't fill up on that stuff. Dad's going to start cooking on the grill soon."
"It all good. It was just something to stop my stomach from grumbling."
"Oh ok then." We sat in an awkward silence for a few minutes, with neither of us knowing what to say to the other.
"Sooo...?" Riker asked.
"Oh, how're things with you and Em?" I questioned.
"Good." He said a little too happy so he cleared his throat and continued on in a lower voice than normal to seem less enthusiastic, "Things are really good."
"I bet. I saw you two earlier trying to sneak into the house. What were you up to?" I playfully elbowed him.
"You saw that?" He blushed and put his hand up to the back of his neck.
"Yeah. You two thought no one was looking," I teased. His face got even redder. "Don't worry, I'm sure no one else saw you two leaving to get 'freaky'"
"We weren't doing that. She wanted to talk and I thought it'd be nicer and quieter in the house." I raised my eyebrows in question at him.
"We were! I swear," he put his hands up in surrender.
"I believe you. I was just bustin' your balls," I punched his arm and we both laughed."So what did she want to talk about?" I asked shuffling in my seat to get comfortable again.
"She just wanted to talk about our relationship." He seemed upset when he said that.
"Is something wrong?" I asked.
"No, no. Everything's good. She just wanted to see where I thought it was going, whether or not we wanted the same thing. That kinda thing."
"Phew. I was worried you guys broke up or something," I sillily wiped my forehead in relief.
"Nah, we're all good. She just didn't want what happened with her and that other guy, to happen again."
"I understand that completely." I sympathised.
"You've had a guy break up with you because you wanted different things?" He asked.
"Um, no. Not for that reason, but it did happen to Ben and I had to hear all about it." I told him."Haha, you and him really are close, aren't you?"
"Yeah. Whenever I had a problem, I'd go to him for help. He was always there for me. Plus, we'd grown up together and knew how to make the other feel better." I really missed Ben right now. He really IS my best friend.
"Same with me and Delly." Riker agreed. "So what reason did a guy break up with you?"
"Why did I even bring that up? Hehe,"
"If you don't wanna talk about it...."
"Yes and no. I just don't like getting all touchy feely. Unless I'm drunk," I laughed at the last part.
"Well then, let's get you another drink," Riker winked, stood up and offered his hand to help me up.
"You're being seriously irresponsible Mr. Riker, supposed to be the oldest and most responsible."
"I can't get a night off," he asked pretending to be hurt. I just laughed and walked over to the cooler with Riker following me.1 hour later
"Sooo, how've you been? Catching up with some friends, hey Ross?" I asked him as I wrapped my arm around his shoulder since I couldn't hold myself up anymore.
"Kat, are you ok?" He put his hands on my waist to help steady me.
"I'm goooood. But I asked you." I booped his nose.
"Let's get you something to eat. You've clearly had too much to drink."
"I already ate like, three hamburgers. I'm good."
"Heh, then let's sit down," he suggested.
"No, no." I pulled away from him. I didn't want to sit down, I was so full of energy. "I don't wanna sit down. I wanna..... I wanna......" I trailed off staring at something behind him.
"You wanna.......?" He asked trying to get me to finish my thought.
"Right! Haha, I wanna dance or swim. Or dance AND swim!" I grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the pool.
"Kat! Calm down. Let's just dance and we can go swimming after if you still want to," he suggested. I nodded and headed to the little area they had designated for a dance floor. I think I lasted about 20 minutes before I needed to sit down again."You still wanna go swimming?" He asked me, trying to see if I'd had enough and wanted to give up on my crazy ideas.
"Ooo, yeah. I totally forgot about swimming. Thanks!" He let out a deep breath and old rolled his eyes before I dragged him towards the pool. Just before I jumped in he took control and pulled me back.
"What?" I whined.
"You want to go in fully clothed? In your new outfit, that you spent heaps of money on?" he tried to reason with me. I looked down at my clothes and remembered how much I'd spent on them.
"You're probably right."
"I am right," I playfully slapped his shoulder.
"Ok, so I'mma go get changed. You coming?" I winked as I walked off, hoping he'd follow me.
