"Last night, all four members of the Bennett Family were killed in their home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Jake and Sandra Bennett were the parents of Sammy, 11, and Kayla, 9." Pen says introducing us to our new case. Photos of the crime scene appear on the screen. I look down the moment the children's photos appear.
"Agent Beeks in the Omaha field office called me. The previous night, the other family, the Archers, were killed just across the state line in Nebraska. He thinks it's the same offender." Hotch explains. I flip through the files scanning through the notes.
"The M.O. is consistent. Both mothers died due to severe blunt force trauma, and the fathers suffered multiple stab wounds." Derek says reading the file in front of him.
"The children were all strangled." Rossi speaks up. "Violence only in the kids rooms, but no sexual abuse on any of the children. That's odd." I don't care if it's odd....I'm fucking thankful. I don't think my stomach could handle that type of case this soon after trying to deal with the aftermath of our last case.
I sip on my coffee.....I'm back to sleeping like shit, only it's a newer memory keeping me up at night.
"Odd comes up right now, because the Bennett father was not just stabbed, he was also.....and those pictures are in your personal files because I didn't think they needed the help of 1080p." Pen says clicking her clicker as the photos disappear from the screen.
"Amen." I absentmindedly say before looking up and apologizing. I clear my throat before sounding more like an adult. "His chest was opened, organs disturbed, intestines removed.....jesus."
"That's awesome. Could we please leave the gross part of the conversation for the plane?" Pen looks at me with slight annoyance.
"Sure my beauitful four-chambered muscular organ bestie." I give her a ornery grin, catching the fluffy pen she throws my way. "Awe I love you too"
"The father of the Archer family had multiple stab wounds but no dissection." Spence says causing my heart to flutter.
Ever since Ohio he's been nothing but awkward....well more than his normal level of awkward. It's adorable but also frustrating because it means he hasn't tried to kiss me. I know I'm not being delusional here...he tried to kiss me in on the steps of the station.
"So he went from piquerism to this overnight?" Emily questions looking around the roundtable.
"2 families in 2 days. He's on a spree." Rossi states.
"Nothing the Agents of the round table can't solve." I grin finding my pun to be rather funny. Telling by Hotch's face it was in fact not. Pen and Spence stifle a grin as I shoot them both a wink.
"Please keep the jokes to a minimum this trip Finnegan. Wheels up in 30."
"Aye, aye captain" I say giving him a salute. He gives me a narrowed look as he stands. "Sorry Sir.....I'm on my fifth cup of the day." I apologize, clinking my mug with my finger.
