Spence's hand is gripping mine while we watch our baby being measured on the projected screen. Our ultrasound tech smiling along as she does the growth assessment on baby's brain, spine, face, abdomen, limbs, and all four chambers of the heart. Just watching the little flicker on the screen showing a strong heartbeat was enough of a relief to me. Every since we lost our angel, all I wanted was a second chance at being a mom.
She moves on to look at my uterus and placenta for any anomalies, judging by her microexpressions both baby and I are doing fabulous. Spence would have noticed if something was off, and I would have noticed the change in him.
The young blonde tech turns to face us with a warm wide smile, "Ready to find out the gender?"
I look up to meet Spence's gaze, his eyes light up with tears nodding his head with a giddy excitement. I turn back to her my smile growing, "We're ready."
She squirts some more warm gel on my growing belly before her transducer starts moving around trying to get a good look at our sweet baby's privates. She chuckles telling us they are being shy with their little legs crossed. She uses the transducer to shake my stomach trying to get those little legs uncrossed. They totally get their properness from their daddy. After about two minutes she has me move positions, both Spence and I holding our breaths in hope. That seems to do the trick as she snaps a still photo captured from the video.
"Congratulations you're having a......"
I set down a box of fresh donuts from the bakery, Derek already trying to grab one as I slap his hand away. "Don't be greedy. We need to wait for everyone."
Pen comes running in with an extra bounce to her step, "Gender Reveal! Gender Reveal! Auntie Penny is so ready to know what this sweet baby genius is so I can spoil them rotten the right way." She says rubbing my belly for a moment.
"I'm telling you it's going to be another pretty boy." Derek already starts betting.
"I think I'm with Derek on this one!" JJ chimes in.
"You both are wrong. It's a girl. It has to be, Auntie Penny needs her shopping buddy."
I roll my eyes chuckling.
