Like we promised

We found the others all badly wounded but still giving their all as Muichiro jumped up to Sanemi, holding him in the air to help him dodge an attack. The demon was relentless, the only visible change in his appearance was his torn kimono while everyone else had been bleeding out.

We all kept fighting for a few minutes while we decided to go in together to hopefully overwhelm the demon. He unleashed his moon breathing but we all figured out his dirty trick by now. We dodged his crescent moon blades and closed in on his attack range.

Gyomei was able to cut a chunk of his shoulder and torso out and Muichiro impaled the demon with his sword. Gyomei had his mark, meaning, he would die today. Tears filled my eyes as I was nearing the attack range and Genya started to shoot rapidly before impaling him in place with a tree.

Just as I was closing in, that monster was about to unleash yet another moon-breathing attack. Everything slowed down, he was so close to Muichiro. I couldn't let him be harmed anymore. All the tree branches turned to swords but Muichiro was okay for now. I was just a foot away now.

I unleashed an attack with Gyomei and Sanemi but was blown back a few more feet. He was rooted yet again by Genya and I could see Muichiro felt time was running out. His blade, once blue was now glowing bright red and the monster let out a hideous roar. He was going to attack Muichiro directly!

I felt a speed course through my body in a way I never felt before. He started to release a slash that would have cut Muichiro in half. I made it just in time though, it didn't cut Muichiro deeply as I pulled him into my arms. Using my sword I pushed the moon attack to my left side while I held Muichiro in my right arm.

Unfortunately, the moon sword he swung was crescent-shaped and it spun around into my back, impaling one of my lungs as Muichiro looked up at me in horror. I wasn't done yet though. Muichiro's blade, still stuck in the demon was bright red.

As I fell to the ground, I focused all my strength into kicking that blade's handle so it dug deeper into the demon and weakened him more. I saw the sword managed to leave a considerable size slice that distracted him from the others if only for a second.

His head was cut in an instant by Gyomei as I fell to the ground with Muichiro. The wound in my chest was deep and blood was gurgling in my mouth. Muichiro wasn't in good shape either, barely awake like me as I desperately crawled while holding him anyway, too weak to even stand now.

I only had seconds left until I would black out and likely die. The other two were preoccupied with finishing off the demon's second head as I spent my last few seconds wrapping Muichiro's chest wound.

"W-we are, going to get m-married. R-remember?" I told him as I finished wrapping his wound. My voice was muffled by the blood in my throat, and it was worse to try and speak, but I didn't care. He needed to remember and stay alive.

I hadn't even noticed he was holding my chest to try and stop my bleeding. I didn't even notice the amount of pain I was in because I was just relieved Muichiro was alive. My body couldn't keep up anymore, and neither could he as we blacked out in each other's arms but the last thing we heard was that monster being defeated by our comrades.

Muichiro's POV:

---------

Shit. I don't think she even noticed her own wound. I was desperately trying to wrap it, to stop her bleeding. She had taken a deep wound into her back, for me. And all she could focus on was trying to stop my bleeding. Why was she so pure, even when she was dying before me?

Her eyes were bloodshot and blood was pouring from her wound and her mouth. It must have punctured her lung. Yet, she smiled and tried to speak to me.

"W-we are, going to get m-married. R-remember?" She spoke weakly before passing out on top of me. I had only a moment, but I finished tightening her makeshift bandage on his back.

"Yes, so, don't die!" I cried out to her. My vision was blurry and everything was spinning, but I held onto her with all my strength as my vision started to go black as well. Damn this small body for bleeding out too quickly.

---------

"Brother!" I heard Yuichiro calling out to me. I didn't feel the pain anymore as I opened my eyes and saw my brother, eyes full of tears. He was still small just like that day. My parents were behind him as well, looking at me with smiles failing to disguise their tears.

"You have to go back!" He called out. I was confused by what he meant. Wasn't this a dream?

"Muichiro, you have to go back to her. Go live a long and happy life my son," My mother pleaded as she knelt down and kissed my forehead. It felt so warm yet so surreal.

"We love you. Go get married and live your life for us," My father spoke before they waved goodbye.

So, it wasn't a dream, but I wasn't quite dead yet.

As much as I wanted to stay, and be happy with my family again. I knew I had someone waiting for me. You weren't here. you would be here if you were dying too. I had to go back to you so I closed my eyes and held onto the image of my family in my heart, just like you said not too long ago.

----------

I woke up I'm not sure how much later. Genya lay dead near us but the others were long gone. I could hear rumbling and chaos that this strange place was collapsing. I had recovered enough when I was unconscious to pick you up and take you out of here.

With you in my arms, I jumped out of the collapsing building and ended up in a city where all the other pillars were. It seems Muzan had already been fighting as the crows cried out to us.

"One hour and a half until dawn!" They screeched. I couldn't believe this. We still had that long? You were still unconscious but at least you stopped bleeding for now. Your breathing was faint but it was getting stronger with each breath luckily.

I set you down somewhere safe and left you in the care of one of the medical assistants as I sprinted towards the battle. It doesn't matter if my shoulder and chest still hurt like hell, I was strong enough to fight to protect you. We were going to get married, so I had to make sure we both stayed alive and put an end to demons like we promised!
