Hashira Meeting

Sanemi was surprised by my actions as he stepped back from my presence. Muichiro stared at me curiously until his typical serious, deadpan expression took over. He could look so intimidating when he did that, but it helped confirm to everyone we were a team.

"The hell you think you are doing?!" Sanemi yelled back at me before batting me away, annoyed at the mention of his headbutt incident. I heard a few of the other hashira hold back their laughter. I'll have to remember to thank Tanjiro for telling me that story when we made our way here the last time later.

We were all interrupted by the Master making his appearance and calling me forward. He introduced me to the other Hashira and gave his explanation for why there were now two mist pillars.

"A new breathing form that requires two users? What a great idea," Shinobu stated proudly, as if already thinking of the potential new uses. She did have a tsugoku after all, so it made sense for her to consider everything that could be taught.

"If you work together, do you have the resolve to finish a mission to the very end? Even if one of you will die?" Giyu Tomioka asked me calmly. His voice was quiet but his words struck a chord through the room as everyone waited to see my answer.

The question caught me by surprise, but it was a valid point. Two people close to each other during a mission may prioritize their own lives over that of ending a demon, which could save countless lives overall. Even still, I could only think of the fate of my family and how much Muichiro and I worked better as a team.

"My resolve is just as strong as Muichiro's! We are a team, but even still, I won't quit until I die or every demon is dead. I wholeheartedly believe we are the generation to end their reign of terror," I stated proudly. Tomioka gave me a small nod of approval as did everyone else. Their worries seemed to subside and I felt, accepted.

Gyomei congratulated me and wished Muichiro and I the best for the future. He seemed very kind. Mitsuri was ecstatic for me when I noticed Obanai seemed more interested in staring at her than introducing himself to me.

I was very happy with how everything went, but Sanemi still was shrugging me off but didn't provoke me further at least. I heard he was incredible on the battlefield, however, so he still had my respect as a fellow hashira.

"So, when will you two have the wedding?" Mitsuri asked excitedly as everyone turned to us in shock. The room that was finally more accepting and welcoming quickly changed back to a confused concern.

My face turned bright red but Muichiro seemed to laugh, surprising everyone. The change from his serious demeanor to laughing at my embarrassment just proved what Mitsuri had said was true.

It suddenly all made sense now, her strange squealing when she came to pick up Tanjiro, talking to Muichiro in private. She was in on his plan to propose. She must have helped him somehow.

"In two months," He explained calmly as everyone was still in a state of shock. He grabbed my hand and squeezed it, reassuring me it was okay.

"Wait, you two are engaged. Master did you-" Tomioka started to ask before Master smiled down at us.

"I will allow it. There's no rule stating hashira can't be married anyways," The Master explained calmly with a smile.

"I see. If that is the case, I hope you will consider inviting me to such an event so I may send my congratulations," Gyomei stated as he gave us what I suppose was his blessing.

"This is ridiculous! First, you become a second pillar instead of taking over as the next," Obanai started pointing at me annoyed until he redirected to an uninterested Muichiro. "And now you will marry your Tsugoku! Don't you think that is unprofessional?" He asked with a distinctive hiss.

"Can be unprofessional if the Master approved it every step of the way?" Muichiro asked him blankly causing Obanai to look down at him surprised. Muichiro maintained his blank stare as Mitsuri went and explained to Obanai that it was good news and to stop being so mean. He crossed his arms and rolled his eyes, but he did stop for Mitsuri's sake.

"Muichiro, you will get married? You are the youngest hashira you know, that isn't fair! You are only 18," Shinobu stated in her sweet but somehow intimidating voice.

"You are invited to attend. Maybe you can meet someone there if you are looking for a man," He replied to Shinobu who held her terrifying smile but I could see her biting her tongue in anger. I had to hold back my laughter as I grabbed Muichiro by the shoulders to shake his attitude out.

"You are all invited! So please, attend if you are able to!" I pleaded as everyone let out a sigh and agreed. Except Sanemi, who just looked angry but I had a feeling he would accept an invitation regardless. Surprisingly, he started to approach us.

"I think you two are morons, but I will attend your stupid wedding anyways!" He grudgingly stated before walking away pissed off. What a strange guy.

With that, the hashira meeting had concluded and it was time for everyone to return home. I think everything was a success, I was accepted as the new mist pillar with Muichiro by my side, and we would help teach some of the interested hashira about how we developed a two-person breathing form.

As we began our walk back home to the Estate, we were greeted by excited recruits who were eager to show us their skills they swore they honed in while we were gone. I was excited and proud they were practicing while we were gone so we agreed to take them on.

Everyone was on the floor and unable to stand seven minutes later. But, that was their personal best. They seemed frustrated beyond belief but I cleared the mist and shouted at them.

"That was your best so far! I am proud of every one of you. I will cook whatever your hearts desire tonight as a reward!" I shouted as they all cheered excitedly. Muichiro smiled as I took their orders and headed toward the kitchen.

While I loved the vacation, it was nice to be back in my own kitchen as I got to work with the chef on preparing everyone's meals. Even though I was beginning to feel tired, my happiness from the past few days and the excitement of the future kept me going.

After a great meal, everyone headed to bed and Muichiro passed out from exhaustion as soon as our heads hit the pillow. Even so, we still held each other close to sleep and rested to our heart's content.

One week had passed since we returned from our vacation. We fell back into our routine of training. Luckily, these recruits were almost done as we wished them goodnight again and started to head back to our room.

"One week closer to marrying you," Muichiro stated with a smile. He was counting down the days even though we had just barely begun our wedding planning.

"I love you!" I stated happily as he smiled. Our hands interlaced until we were interrupted by the screaming of both of our crows.

"The Master's Estate is under attack!" They cried out in unison. Our hearts were in our throats at the news but our bodies reacted before our minds could process what was happening as we started sprinting towards the Master's Estate.
