The snow has finally begun to stick. It's been a month since I visited my village, and I've spent it trying to decipher what happened to my grandparents. The journal entries, the scrolls, they're all puzzle pieces to one master picture... But it's like I'm missing the most important piece.

I try so hard to remember. I try to remember his technique, but every time I see my grandfather's face in my mind it's always from that night. I try to remember any conversations about my mother, how she passed, what she even looked like. I think of how my grandfather didn't want me here, at Jujutsu High, and it feels like every day I stay is like a stab to his back.

"(Y/n), we should hit the mall soon! They're having a huge winter sale and I need a new coat!" Shoko tells me.

Her, Satoru, and I are sitting on the steps outside. Nanami and Ijichi are training on the grass, Nanami obviously doing much better than Ijichi.

"Perhaps, that sounds like a good idea... You in, Satoru?" I ask.

"That totally sounds like so much fun, but I have a training scheduled for this afternoon... gonna have to pass."

"Well, we can just wait until tomorrow. It's no big deal." I tell him, Shoko forming an annoyed face.

"No (y/n), you go! I'm sure Shoko could use some girllll time" Satoru says sarcastically, Shoko letting out a giggle.

"Please, (y/n)! We haven't hung out without this douche in forever!" Shoko says, rolling her eyes at Satoru.

I look back to Satoru, he nods, squeezing my hand in reassurance. I smile at him, and stand up with Shoko. We make our way up the stairs.

"If anything happens, you call me!" He shouts at us.

"Of course, but nothing's gonna happen!" I yell back to him, waving goodbye.

"Ouu, nice and warm in here." Shoko says, sliding the glass door closed.

"I'm kind of excited. I need to get out of this school, feels like I have done nothing this entire break." I tell Shoko, interlocking my arm with hers.

"We could all use a rest, we have spent the entire break training... I'm so tired of being in the lab."

"This one is cute?" I ask Shoko, holding up a black leather trench.

"And sexy!" Shoko shoots back, winking at me.

We are rummaging through the racks at a department store. A sense of relief is brushed over me, I feel safe. After years of being told the city is no good, I never believed I would be able to visit the city without my grandfather. Though I am grateful, his protective nature really took a toll on me, little things like shopping with my best friend make me feel like I'm doing something wrong. If there is a heaven, I know my grandfather is disappointed in me right now.

"Hmm, I'm kind of hungry... take out?" Shoko interrupts my thoughts with a question. She is holding multiple coats, obviously doing some retail therapy.

I worry about her, her eye bags getting darker, and her skin growing more pale. Whenever I ask if she is okay, she always responds with the same nod and smile.

"I am sooo down for that!" I tell her, bringing the coat that I found to the register.

After we checked out, we made our way down to the food court. I hold my single bag in my right arm, and Shoko's arm in the other.
