"It's the best day everrrrr!" Kai sings as he swings in between Shoko and I's grasp. "Lock up the ladies! Kai is on his way to school!" Shoko jokes, causing me to roll my eyes.
Six years old, and ready for his first day of school. The past years have been a whirlwind, but I've finally been able to move on from the depression of leaving Satoru, Megumi, and Tsumiki, though it aches me everyday. Kai is finally breaking out of his shell, and after some of the developmental stumps he went through, I pray that a social setting will help him even more.
We have spent the past year learning new words and emotions, preparing him for this day. I could see how much he envied the neighborhood kids, always running around with their friends. His entire life, it has just been us and Shoko. Today is a big day for him, and I know that he will do great... I mean who wouldn't love him?
As he gets older, manners and communication have been the running theme in our household. "How are you going to address your teachers?" I ask the boy, a quick test does no harm. "As sir and ma'am." He says, in a serious tone. "And your bow?" I ask him, and he quickly bows his head for Shoko and I.
"I think he'll be fine, (Y/n)." Shoko says, nudging my shoulder a bit. "Of course he will. He's the Kai Gojo!" I say, clapping my hands to encourage the boy. We continue down the school walk way and through the grade school building.
"Your classroom is this way." I say, guiding the little boy with my hands. "A million years ago your mom went to this school." Shoko says, poking Kai's back. "Really?" Kai asks in an excited tone.
"Yep. It was actually a million and one, though." I wink to Shoko and Kai giggles. We make our way through the buzzing hallway full of parents and kids. I feel slightly sad for Kai, I remember how bad the lighting and school buildings would affect me, I hope that's not the case for him. "Right in here!" I say, pulling the door open to reveal a classroom full of children his age.
Kai's eyes light up when he realizes he no longer has to dream of making friends, and I feel slightly guilty that he's never had this opportunity before. "Ms. Gojo!" The teacher greets us. "Please, call me (Y/n)." I say with a smile, but being called Ms. Gojo did feel good for a second.
The teacher helps Kai to his desk, and Shoko and I walk over to say our goodbyes.
"Alright, kid. I'll be back in a few hours to pick you up." I say, ruffling his hair and kissing his cheek. "If you need anything at all, you can ask your teacher to call me." I tell him, and stuff his lunchbox into his backpack. "You got this, bud." Shoko says, and pats his head.
"Bye Mama, bye Auntie." Kai waves, and my heart melts. "He's eager to get us out of here, huh?" Shoko whispers to me, and I let out a little laugh. Shoko and I find our way out of the building, I read somewhere to not make make a big deal out of your departure.
As soon as we get out of the building, I can't help but cry. "I promise he'll be fine." Shoko comforts me, but honestly that isn't the reason I am crying. "I just miss Megumi and Miki. It's their first day too, and I wish I could've been there." I sob, and Shoko wraps her arm around me. "I'll go check on them right now. I'll even tell Satoru to take some pictures!" Shoko says, and I smile at her attempts to make me feel better.
"Thanks, Sho."

Dear Mom,
12/ 14/ 2016
Hey Mom, how are you? I'm sorry I have been falling short on letters, I have been super caught up with midterms. Megumi has had his letter ready for weeks, but dad refuses to mail them until we both have them ready. I'm really sorry... Algebra is no joke.
School has been good, but I'm ready to get to high school. All of my friends said that the uniforms are much cuter than our middle school uniforms. Dad showed us some pictures of you in high school, and your uniform was adorable. You have always been so pretty, and I'm sure you are even more beautiful now.
Love and Miss you,
Tsumiki

Dear Mom,
I know that this letter will take ages to deliver, but please don't think that I've forgotten. I made it onto the honor roll's list at school, and Dad keeps the certificate on the fridge. I begged him to take it down, but he refused to. It's so annoying.
There've been a few incidents at school, and I didn't want to tell you, but dad said that I had to. Long story short, I got into a fight... but I promise that it's not what you think it is. I realize that life revolves around a basic rule, don't go out of your way to invalidate somebody's dignity and pride. The person that I got into a fight with was not upholding such a basic ideology, but of course, now I'm the one being punished.
Anyway, sorry for the bad news. I hope things are going well with you, and I hope that you will be able to preserve your garden this winter. I remember that you had a hard time with it last year. Gardening seems like a very peaceful hobby, it suits you. High school is coming up fast for Tsumiki and I, and if I remember properly that means your arrival will be upon us soon? I don't mean to be silly, but we do look forward to it.
Miss you,
Megumi Fushiguro
