Larissa stepped into your dark apartment, Shelby immediately ran up to her to rub against her tall legs, thinking it was you who had come home, but when he didn't smell you just Larissa he immediately walked away up to his bow to show it was empty.
"Of course you're hungry, little rat." Larissa didn't hate Shelby, but she didn't love him that much either. It was more jealousy than anything else. She always got jealous of you, giving him so much attention and him giving it back to you, and whenever you asked if she wanted the same treatment as Shelby got, she would hold her head high and say no. Oh, but all she ever wanted was for you to just talk to her the same way you talked to your cat, but mainly, she was jealous that you lived with the cat and not her, that was the biggest trigger for Larissa. Shelby getting to spend more time with you.
After Larissa had given the fluffy animal some dry cat food and a few soft caresses on its back, she decided to hop in the shower to wash all the sadness, sweat, and anger away.
But as soon as the hot water hit her skin, she couldn't keep herself together and came apart. She collapsed on the shower floor and began sobbing, the tears immediately being swept away by the water while instead, she wished it was you.
Half a centimeter.
Half a centimeter would be all it would have taken to take your life. Not even a full centimeter. A Half.
While Larissa just stood there and did nothing.
The poison was meant for her. To kill her, but you saved her.
'Stupid girl' was all Larissa could call you. She was mad and sad. She wanted to be thankful, but she couldn't be. How could she thank you for saving her life when, in the end, you are the one lying in the hospital bed while it was supposed to be her?
"Stupid, stupid, beautiful girl." She cried, hugging her knees, drawing deep red lines into her skin with every thought of losing you as a punishment for just standing there, not blocking your way to take the hit.
After the painfully long shower, she threw on her pajamas she had left here from the previous night and crawled into your bed, your cold bed that was missing your presence.
She tossed and turned for a good hour, the tears managing to slip once in a while until she felt a weight press down on her. She knew it wasn't you, so she tried to ignore the gray cat who was purring, making its way closer and closer to Larissa until she couldn't ignore it.
The cat began kneading at the sheets, his little paws pressing deeper and deeper every time until he crawled up on top of Larissa.
She knew she wouldn't fall asleep, and she knew that Shelby liked making you sleep uncomfortably at night, so to be smart about it, she pushed herself up in the bed till she was sitting and grabbed the cat into her lap.
Surprisingly, he didn't run away. Instead, he kept purring as if it were you who was holding him. He had never slept in the blonde's lap, not even when she tried to bribe him with treats, so this came as a surprise to her or maybe not.
"You too know something isn't right with your owner." You always said to Larissa how you and Shelby had a strange connection which she just laughed about, but maybe it had gotten to her now as she couldn't help but think about it.
At least until 4 am, Larissa and Shelby almost cuddled together as this cat was finally giving her some sense of comfort until she was left with a heart dropped to her stomach by a thought that had crossed her mind.
Parent. Your parents.
Your mom and dad should know you are in the hospital. For Larissa, it just didn't feel right that they weren't informed, so she almost immediately grabbed your phone off the nightable and tuned it on. She searched through the contacts until she found the word she was looking for.
