Mother

Azula, 5 years old, the park

"Mommy! Come push me on the swing!" Said little Zuko while running to the swing set.
"Ok, I'm coming sweetheart" said Ursa as she followed Zuko to the swings and started pushing him.

Azula was having fun going down the slide repeatedly but when she saw how much fun Zuko looked like he was having, she also wanted to swing. She made her way over to the swings and tried climbing up on the second one but she couldn't quite make it up there.

"Mommy, help me up. I wanna swing like Zuzu" she said.
"One second Azula. Let me finish pushing Zuko first and then I'll come push you too" Ursa replied.
"Mm, please mommy!" She pleaded
"Give me two minutes Azula, then I'll push you. Just wait a little, ok?"
"Mm!" She grunted in a grumpy tone then bent down, picked up a handful of sand and threw it on Zuko who was swinging.
"Ahh! My eyes!" Screamed out Zuko who had gotten some sand thrown in his eyes.
"Azula! You don't throw sand! Why would you do that?!" Ursa said to her. Azula didn't reply, she just hung her head down and ran off back to where she was playing before.

"Are you ok sweetheart? Your eyes don't hurt too much?" Said Ursa while kneeling down on Zuko's level to make sure he was ok.
"Mhm, I'm ok" replied Zuko
"Good" she said and then gave him a hug.

Azula, 9 years old, at home

"Mommy, come play with me" said Azula to Ursa
"Sure, what do you want to play Azula?" Replied Ursa.
"We can play with my new dolls"
"That's a great idea. Come on, let's play"

Azula went to go get her dolls and they started playing together in the living room. They were having fun for all of five minutes when they heard a loud rumble coming from the stairs.
"Owww!" They heard Zuko scream and then start to cry.
"Oh my god, one second Azula" Ursa says as she gets up and does over to Zuko who just tumbled down the stairs.
"Zuko are you ok?" She asks him
"Yeah but my hand hurts a bit" he responds, holding his wrist
"Oh no, it looks swollen... it might be sprained. We have to get it checked out, come on"
"Mommy, can we keep playing?" Asks Azula as she comes over to see what happened.
"Sorry Azula, I need to take your brother to the doctor. We'll play another time, ok?"
"No! I wanted to play now!"
"Azula, Zuko just got hurt"
"It's always for Zuko! You like him more than me!"
"Azula I don't, I just need to get him to the doctor"
"Liar!" Azula yells as she runs upstairs to her room.

"I'll have to talk to her later... come on Zuko, let's go" Ursa says as she leaves with Zuko.

Azula, 13, driving home

"Azula I can't believe you", says Ursa with disappointment in her voice, "I can't believe you're suspended from school..."
"It was over something stupid" said Azula
"Yeah but you racked up so many detentions because of stupid things that they finally decided to suspend you"
"Whatever"
"No it's not whatever! I had to leave work to come get you! Azula this behaviour is ridiculous!"
"Yeah well all this is stupid!"
"Yeah Azula! I know it's stupid! You do stupid things and get punished for them!"
"It's not my fault!"
"Then whose fault is it?! You never take responsibility for your actions!"
"It's the teachers! They hate me!"
"Teachers don't hate students for no reason! That's not how people work!"
"You hate me for no reason!"
"What are you talking about?!"
"You hate me! You never pay attention to me and you always yell at me!"
"Oh spare me Azula! You know that isn't true! Stop trying to play the victim just because you got in trouble!"
"Shut up! I'm not playing the victim!"
"Hey! Don't you dare tell me to shut up!"
"All you do is yell at me! I'm sick of it!"
"And I'm sick of your attitude! I don't want another word out of you!"
"Fine! Whatever!"
She just sat in the car in silence until they got home. She didn't say a word to her mother for another week after that incident.

Azula, present day, at home

Azula finally gets home after a long day at school. She'd been in a bad mood since the incident with Sokka. When she entered her house she was greeted by Ursa standing there, looking angry.

"Azula what's wrong with you?" She tells her.
"I don't know, what is it now?" Azula says.
"Don't play stupid Azula. I got a call from your principal about something that happened at school today"
"Oh right, that"
"Have anything to say?"
"No, I don't want to talk about it"
"Well I do! What in the world possessed you to call your teacher a bitch?!"
"I don't know, something"
"Why are you being so nonchalant about this?! You have detention for the whole week!"
"Whatever, I don't care"
"Well start caring! You can't call your teacher a bitch!"
"Well she was being a bitch! The entire class was talking and of course she picks me to yell at!"
"You have absolutely no respect for anyone. Not for your peers, not for your teachers, not even for me"
"Yeah obviously I don't fucking respect you! You're awful to me!"
"How am I awful to you?!"
"You never come and talk to me just to have a conversation. You only come talk to me to yell at me, like you're doing right now. You never want to do anything with me, like go out and whatever"
"And do you ever come to me and talk or ask to go out?"
"I've tried! I've asked you to do stuff and you're always busy or something has come up. It's like you just have excuses ready so you can avoid doing something with me. I've given up trying a long time ago. Also, you always magically have time for Zuko because he's your favourite"
"Azula I don't have favourites. I've had this conversation with you many times. Your behaviour has become harder and harder to deal with. It's hard to talk to you"
"Oh don't even! You haven't even tried to talk to me! You only yell at me! It's your favourite thing to do!"
"Azula that's ridiculous! I don't only yell at you!"
"Sure, you also ask me to do things and do stuff. When's the last time we had a normal conversation? When's the last time you told me that you loved me or that you were proud of me? Because I can't remember"
"Azula stop saying stupid things! I love you very much but it's hard to tell you that when you're constantly giving me attitude!"
"Yeah whatever, I know you hate me and that you think I make your life hard. Don't worry, I'll go and leave you alone. You'll be much happier" Azula says as she starts walking to the door again.
"Where are you going?"
"Pff, as if you care. Don't worry, I'll be back. I'm just going for a walk so you can have a break from me" Azula says as she walks out of the house.
