I love sleeping and I love my bed. Every day I try to sleep in, at least a few minutes. But not today, for today is a very special day. So, right as I feel the warm morning sun on my skin, I shoot my eyes open and jump out of bed.
I don't even bother dressing up or going to the refresher, I just run out of my room and make my way right to the kitchen/living room.
As I enter, I recognize the figure of my dad setting up breakfast. My fast breathing must have made him aware of my presence, because he turns around immediately, smiles and nods over to the food on the table.
And although I am really hungry, I don't spare the deliciously smelling porridge a second glance and instead look up to my dad with a "stupid grin" as he always says and twirl around, hoping he didn't forget what day it is.
"What is it that you want from me, my birthday girl?" he says, hands on his hips he's looking down at me with a slightly annoyed look, that I very well know he's pretending.
"You did not forget!" I yell with happiness and jump up and down, excited.
"Did you really think I would forget the most important day of the year?" he gasps dramatically with his hand on his chest, before picking me up and putting me on his hip. "So, what would you like missy?"
"Definitely not porridge..." I look at him with a smirk and low eyebrows.
"Oh, well if you don't like my porridge, then I assume you won't like my present for you either..." he responds, putting me down and sitting down to eat his breakfast.
"A gift?! No no no, I want the gift, please!" I plead. My dad never gave me a gift. He would always take me wherever I wanted and basically devoted the whole day just for me, but he never gave me a gift. So, you can easily imagine the excitement that erupted in me right now.
"I can't give you a gift if you won't eat breakfast Ezra." he didn't even finish speaking, and I was already devouring the porridge so fast I almost choked.
And in less than two minutes my porridge was gone, and dads was still half full. At that I sighed loudly to let him know that if he doesn't hurry up, I will explode. He just looks at me, then puts down his spoon and stands up.
"All right, get dressed and meet me in the training hall."
"Yes master!" I stand up and sprint back to my room. Yeah, I know I know, 'dad and a master? That's hardly possible.' Well, this man is not my real father, and not even a proper master, but he trains me, so I must call him master. And the dad part - I would never say it out loud, but he is like a father to me, and I love him as a father, because he does raise me and even though I know he would never say it either I think he also cares for me.
When I get to my room, I quickly throw some pants and robes on, all messy, and run out again, towards the training hall. And when I say hall, I mean HALL. Really, the training room is bigger than all of ours living quarters combined.
As I walk in the hall, I find my master sitting in the middle of the room, facing away from me. This confuses me. I thought it was a gift, not a lesson. Anyways... I go and sit behind him in a cross-legged position and wait.
"I have your gift, don't worry. But it is far more important than just a birthday gift, Ezra. So, I expect you to take this with a certain... responsibility I guess." he turns around, holding a small box and hands it to me.
"I will, master." now this worries me. All of a sudden, I'm not sure if I want to take the gift. But my curiosity got the better of me, so I push my anxiety away and take it.
And with a deep breath I open it.
"What?! No, I can't believe it! This is..." I take the contents out of the box, revealing two kyber crystals, blue and green.
