Mystery

I don't think I would ever admit it, but I was so scared to meet them. When Master Yoda informed me that I was to be Anakin Skywalker's Padawan, I was shocked. Every youngling knew him, his Master and they're mysterious companion.

The mysterious companion of Master Kenobi and Knight Skywalker, Ezra was her name. I remember that up until the beginning of the War, nobody knew her name, or where she came from really. We still don't know where did she come from, but at least we now know her name, and I was supposed to meet her, and be around her.

She wasn't a Jedi, that we deducted, since she never attended any classes. Yet she still carried lightsabers, and she lived in the Temple. She was a mystery to all, but there were rumors going around.

Some say she is a part of a split-Order and the Council called upon her for help because of the Clone War, but that didn't make much sense, since I saw her here way before the War started.

Some say that she was a child of some Jedi, but that was also nonsense, because I have never seen or heard of the species she was. Maybe she was from a different Temple, but wouldn't that make her a Jedi? Maybe she is already a Knight, but just her species age differently, something like Master Yoda.

She didn't talk with anybody, besides the two Jedi she was always seen around. Some kids claimed they heard her speak in the canteen with Master Yoda, and that her voice didn't carry any emotion, that she sounded almost mean. It's safe to say everyone was intimidated by her, and I was no exception.

That intimidation changed to intrigue, when some Padawan's came back from the Battle of Geonosis, saying they saw her fight there. I even heard that she helped some Padawan, when she got injured, and that she wasn't all that strange. And apparently, she even fought the Count.

After the first battle, more started to notice her presence in the training hall, sparring with Master Kenobi or Skywalker, saying she was extremely good and skilled. This didn't help me at all to ease my nerves about meeting the mysterious Jedi.

But I didn't really have a choice, I was Master Skywalker's Padawan now, and that meant I would be seeing her more than often, most likely. I was worried, that she wouldn't like me. Of course I was anxious about meeting my new Master, but at least I knew who he was and what was safe to do and say to him, but not her. Beside her name, I had no idea who she was, what she liked, what was too much and on...

And with that, the door of the shuttle lowered and I was met with three curious faces and a handful of clones behind their backs.

I delivered the message Master Yoda had me deliver, not yet revealing the true reason for my presence here. Not going to lie, Master Skywalker seems a little too unmature than the kids used to describe him, always pacing around, waving his arms around, impatient. Well, I do see the reasoning behind Master Yoda's choice.

On the other hand, the girl, Ezra, hasn't said a word since I arrived, from time to time exchanging a look with either Master Kenobi or my Master, and I wondered if she does even speak. After all, what the younglings say can't really be trusted all that much.

She noticed me looking at her, but said nothing, just arched an eyebrow and looked away. Besides that, her expression stayed the same, leveled and neutral, her hands clasped behind her back. That just made me look at her more, trying to study her and get something out, but there was nothing to study. Wow, she was really good.

After the proper introduction though, I noticed her frown. What was that about? But right after I said that I was actually assigned to Master Skywalker, her frown was quickly replaced with shock. Why was it so hard to believe?

I exchanged a few words with my disbelieving Master before she finally spoke, erasing my theory about her being mute. She even picked on my Master a little before we walked off to check on the lookout post. She didn't sound mean at all, she actually seemed pretty decent. That still didn't mean she liked me, just that she had a better relationship with my Master than I had.

After a while of walking, I noticed her behind us. She must've been there for a while, but I noticed her just now. She like a ghost, that's unsettling. I thought I had the Force sensing pretty neatly figured out, but she proved me wrong.

When we got to the lookout my Master talked with Rex, the Captain of his legion. He had blonde hair, unlike the rest of the clones. I wonder if this is his natural color, a mutation in the cloning process, or if he dyes it, to be recognizable.

I introduced myself, but my Master once again denied the fact I was his Padawan. It started to annoy me a little, so I stepped up and joked about him a little.

The clone Captain chuckled and to my surprise, Ezra also giggled, although she hid is better than Rex, covering it up with a cough, making it sound more like a snort than a laugh, but she did laugh. She laughed at my joke. Although my Master wasn't fond of my nickname for him, Ezra found it funny.

Sometime during our little chat with Anakin, the droids put up an energy shield, and we were made to pull back, meeting up with Obi-Wan to plan our next move.

"The shield generator is somewhere in this area." Obi-Wan said, pointing on a place on the holo map of the city. "They're slowly increasing the diameter, and keeping it just ahead of their troops."

"Heavy cannons are gonna be useless against that." Captain Rex said. Our situation just went from bad to terrible, the cannons were our only advantage, and now even that is out of the question.

"As they get closer, I suppose we could try to draw them into the buildings. That might level the playing field a bit." Obi-Wan suggested, stroking his beard in thought, like he did so often.

"If the shield's gonna be such a problem, why don't we just take it out?" Ahsoka proposed. I like her thinking, simple and obvious solutions to complicated problems, her and Anakin are truly a match. It's easier said than done, like Captain Rex pointed out, but she's right. If we ever wish to win this, the shield has to be turned off.

"Well, I, for one, agree with her." Anakin said, just like I thought. "Someone has to get to that shield generator and destroy it. That's the key." he basically voiced my thoughts.

"Right, then. Maybe you two can tiptoe through the enemy lines and solve this particular problem together." Obi-Wan proposed, giving another hope for the new Master-Apprentice duo to bond.

"Can do, Master Kenobi." Ahsoka agreed.

"I'll decide what we do." Anakin had found another reason to bicker, so I stopped them.

"If me, Obi-Wan and Rex engage them here, you two could have a shot to get through their lines unnoticed, here." I pointed to the places at the holo as I spoke.

"They won't have much time. The droids far outnumber us, so our ability to street fight is limited without the use of heavy cannons. They will march forward under the protection of their shield until they're right on top of our cannons, then they'll blow them away." Rex summarized the consequences of the possibility that Anakin and Ahsoka won't destroy the shield in time, but Ahsoka was feeling very optimistic.

"We'll figure out a way. Come on, Master, let's go." she turned around and walked away, Anakin fast on her heels. They shared some words, but were already too far away to hear them, I could only assume he was complaining.

"They make quite a pair, don't they, sir? You think they have a chance?" Rex asked Obi-Wan, obviously concerned.

"They better. If they can't turn off that shield generator before it reaches the heavy cannons, there'll be no escape for any of us." Obi-Wan stated, turning back to the holo of the city, thinking over the plan.

"Come on Obi-Wan, where's that upbeat attitude and trust you always talk about? They'll do it, I know they will." I said, and I really wished I was right.
