<Uzi's POV>

One day.

It has already been an entire day (or whatever passes as a day in the hellhole) and she still hadn't discovered why the fuck she couldn't leave.

It was like hell here. She never got a chance to breathe before she was assigned to another stupid task one of the humans wanted her to do.

But she knew that if she wanted to make it through, she would have to comply, for now. As of now, there was one more day before the gala. Meaning: one more day before shit went down.

Unfortunately, that also meant one more day until a bunch of people arrive, so the place had to be as clean as possible.

Uzi wiped some weird robot sweat off her forehead before turning to N and J. "Is that all the decorations we have to do?"

J panted, seemingly just as exhausted as her. "I think so?"

"Yup!" N yipped cheerfully.

"Great, I'm going to change and then visit Tessa."

"I'll walk you to Tessa's room," N offered.

"Thanks," Uzi smiled. "You don't have to."

"Naw, it's really okay! Let me do this!" N smiled brightly at her, extending an arm out and allowing her to grasp his hand gently.

"You're too sweet," Uzi smiled.

They walked to her room together, smiling like idiots.

He's exactly like N in the future, she thought.

They knocked on the door and Tessa opened it. "Hey, Uzi, N!"

"Hi," Uzi said shyly.

This Tessa is nothing like the one in the future.

"Okay... so since I obviously can't stay here," N ventured, "am I allowed to go to the library?"

"Of course," Tessa said, "Just don't get caught."

N smiled. "Of course not! When have I ever gotten caught?"

Tessa sighed. "Fair. Go."

N bowed. "Thanks, Tessa!" he said, skipping out the room happily and making sure to close the door behind him.

The human girl turned towards Uzi, who stood there awkwardly. "Um, hi?"

"I need to talk to you about something."

Uzi stilled. When someone says I need to talk to you about something, it usually isn't a good thing.

"What do you need?"

Tessa waved her hand dismissively. "Oh, I don't need anything for you. However, I've recently noticed you and N seem to be more attached than the rest of the drones. You've warmed up to him plenty."

"I-"

"You like him, don't you?"

Uzi stilled. Yes she likes N, but not this N. She liked the N in the future. She liked the hot, badass murder drone that always acted like a golden retriever around her.

But she couldn't tell Tessa that. Oh, I don't like N right now, but I will in the future when he becomes a killing machine.

"No," she lied, kind of. "I like somebody else."
