HER FATHER appeared in her dreams that night, she hadn't heard from him all year long until that day.
Cassie stood in an empty hall at the Musée de l'Orangerie, the water lilies of Monet displayed around the room.
"You know this museum was built for me?"
Cassie whipped around. "Huh, you really have people obsessed with you."
"Obviously, it's me."
Her father had the type of beauty that makes you want to fall on your knees and cry. It's not like Aphrodite's, both take your breath away, but his takes something else too.
He sat in the bench and stared at the painting. "You may wonder why I'm here."
"Being an absent father has gotten boring?"
Her father raised a brow at her. "Do you want to know the difference between children of Eros and Aphrodite?"
"I guess you will tell me."
He smiled triumphantly. "You have to figure it out by yourself."
Cassie crossed her arms. "Great, anything else you want to tell me?"
He didn't look at her but at the painting. "Yes, we have to talk about your... abilities."
"I'm not all that."
Her father laughed. "You're my daughter! Of course you're all that!"
Cassie glared at him. "I know I'm great, I'm talking about how useless I'm with my powers."
Her father invited her to sit beside him, she wanted to refuse, but something made her drag her legs and sit.
She stared at the painting, mesmerised by it.
Her father looked at her. "I see you got your love for art from me."
She mumbled a yes, her mother had never been very interested in art, or anything really, much less her daughter.
"Have you ever heard a heartbeat while fighting monsters?"
She nodded she had, she was still too focused on the strokes and colours of the painting.
"All creatures after me and my siblings have a heart, do you know why?"
"No."
"Think Cassiopeia."
It was Cassie, but she wasn't going to correct him, he didn't get to call her by that name.
She thought about why. "Because all creatures after you and your siblings have desires?"
He snapped his fingers. "Correct, every single creature desires something. That's why you can hear their heartbeats, monsters are louder because they're more simple. But humans and gods have them too."
"And what am I supposed to do with this?"
He got up smiling. "You'll figure out that too."

CASSIE WAS in a pissy mood the next day, and after an unsuccessful trip to the attic with Percy that just worsened it.
She had told Percy about her dream with her father, safe to say, Percy liked her father as much as Cassie did (which was not much).
